Can someone plz explain the Ablative Upgrades talent in PT?

"Increase absorption by 3%"

^^^ what does this mean?

I have a feeling it has something to do with the "shield" ability.

2/2 Ablative is 6% and it increases the shield absorption by an additional 6%

Shield Chance is your chance of proc'ing a shield to absorb some damage.

Absorption is how much damage is absorbed by that proc.

so default is 20% ... you'd have 26%?

what is the return on that? 100 dmg = 6 less dmg ... not that impressive?

Gives you a baseline of 26% absorption to work from, making it 100 - 26. That's baseline damage reduction. While it doesn't sound like alot per hit, look at the difference over a long fight, say a raid boss.

Player A shields 200 attacks of 1000 damage for 20%.
Player B shields 200 attacks of 1000 damage for 26%.

Player A takes 400 less damage per shield.
Player B takes 520 less damage per shield.

Over the course of the fight, total damage reduced;

Player A 80,000
Player B 104,000

That's a 24,000 damage reduction difference. That is absolutely massive in an end game raid where your leaning on your healers to cover that.

If you don't take this talent, you're doing it wrong i'm afraid.

damage mitigation adds up. In pvp and high level mobs, the attacks can bypass armor ratings, so mitigation is more valuable than rebraced armor (imo).

interesting thoughts... i'll skip it till i find myself facing high level raid bosses (a long time from now)

In pvp burst is more important and i'd rather trust solid stats than currently low % luck based defenses.

hopefully dual specs come out when the high end stuff starts
