Looking for a class that gives me mid range run & gun dps. And help with basic spec . I have a load of melee and a sahe healer so just want to mix it up a little.

There is no such thing in swtor unless you consider 10m to be mid range which is mostly powertech.

Mid-range, run-and-gun deeps? Vanguard/Powertech and Scoundrel/Operative are what you're looking for. You need to run in to within 4m periodically, but you can do most of your damage from 10m out. (Assault Specialist/Pyrotech and Dirty Fighting/Lethality are less dependent on melee attacks than Tactics/Advanced Prototype and Scrapper/Concealment for the Vanguard/Powertech and Scoundrel/Operative respectively.)
You could also try Assault Specialist Commando/Pyrotech Mercenary if you like. Less reliant on cast-time abilities than Gunnery/Arsenal, so you get noticeably better mobility, though it's still a long-ranged caster at heart. Also, Commando/Mercenary DPS doesn't do very well in PvP; our damage is fine, but we don't have a lot of survivability.

Marauder and Sentinel also work in that range. A lot of the attacks say 4m but they hit from 10m anyway. I play my Sent the same way I play my PT pretty much. Range in this game is an illusion.

Prototype is the most mobile spec in the game, and is, literally, IMPOSSIBLE to kite.

To OP: Every single move, except three seconds every 15 seconds, is instant and cheap. The spec has very little burst, and is mostly done for aoe damage and a little bit of single target. Mostly it's your utility. That immunity to pulls, kbs, slows, and roots makes you a great temporary huttball runner.

Adv proto is also NOT dependent on melee attacks whatsoever. When I parse (Which is an embarrassing low 1550 all wh gear because I'm bad), more than 50% of my damage comes from my 10m moves. Lethality, however, requires melee range. Without melee range, you can put out a few dots which is even less bursty than prototype.

I run in gun often as a Lethality Sniper when I have to but I agree with the above posters. Perhaps a Lethality Operative would be what you are looking for as well.

those have to be initiated at 4m though. well...MS, the big boy.
