Why Dooku and Anakin's relationship is so bad?

They are quite similar in many ways, both are passionate as jedi and against PT Jedi's rule.

Quote:
JOCASTA NU: Well, Count Dooku was always a bit out of step
with the decisions of the Council... much like your old
Master, Qui-Gon Jinn.

OBI-WAN: (surprised) Really?

JOCASTA NU: Oh, yes. They were alike in many ways. Very
individual thinkers... idealists...

JOCASTA NU gazes at the bust.

JOCASTA NU: He was always striving to become a more
powerful Jedi. He wanted to be the best.
With a lightsaber,
in the old style of fencing, he had no match. His knowledge
of the Force was... unique. In the end, I think he left
because he lost faith in the Republic. He believed that
politics were corrupt, and he felt the Jedi betrayed
themselves by serving the politicians. He always had very
high expectations of government. He disappeared for nine or
ten years, then just showed up recently as the head of the
separatist movement.
In the novel of EP III Obi Wan also saw the similarity of Qui Gon on Anakin. Both Anakin and Dooku have very good relationship with Qui Gon as well. However even as enemies they hate each other a lot. Anakin is understandable, but not sure about Dooku. He really dislike Anakin even when Sidious asked him to corrupt him to be their ally, he much prefer Obi Wan, even asked Sidious to choose Obi Wan and kill Anakin, Obi Wan was quite different than the two.

Maybe Dooku thinks Anakin lacks style?

On a serious note, Anakin and Dooku have a very different temperament. Dooku is very controlled, while Anakin is very uncontrolled. Dooku plans, Anakin follows his instincts. For Dooku, power is earned through training and skill (and manipulation). Anakin likes to take shortcuts through power.

I think Dooku thinks Anakin doesn't deserve the power he has. Especially he doesn't deserve to be the chosen one. (IIRC Dooku once thought he was the chosen one and also told the Jedi council, but they said no.)
"I was one of many. We were servants of the dark side… Sith Lords, we called ourselves. So proud. In the end we were not so proud. We hid… hid from those we had betrayed. We fell… and I knew it would be so."

Dooku was also quite passionate when he was young.

You are not that far off...

I just finished reading the novel "Labyrinth of Evil." it is a prequel to RotS (the end of the book butts right up against the start of E3). Very good book that goes into a lot of the motivations of the "bad guys."

Why Anakin doesn't like Dooku? He cut his hand off, people really have a hard time getting over something like that.

Why Dooku doesn't like Anakin? Dooku is cut from a similiar cloth as Palpatine, manipulation is what they do but when forced to fight they fight well. Anakin is a fighter, he really doesn't like intrigue and plots and 10 times out of 10 he'd rather be fighting an army by himself than trying to negotiate with a bunch of politicians. Dooku see's him as rash and foolish, doesn't mean he doesn't see Anakin as useful, but Dooku seems him more of a tool than an ally and therefore can't respect him.
Never give up! Never surrender!

Yeah, when he was young. However his passion is in controlled bursts while Anakin's is erratic. There's a reason we see Anakin's eyes go yellow but not Dooku's.

Dooku has a sense of honour while Anakin sought shortcuts to power, as has been said. Anakin's arrogance would also have irked Dooku.

This is why Dooku saw himself as a sort of grandfather figure to Obi-Wan but looked down on Anakin as undisciplined.
In the Imperial Army, it takes more courage to retreat than to advance.

Dooku is also quite arrogant, he also seeks power, when he met Hego Damask(Plagueis) he said he wants to know the full secret of the Force, including the Dark Side.

So beside the difference of their intelligence(mostly caused by age), they are quite similar.

Of course he's arrogant, which is why he'd be less tolerant of an arrogant opponent than a more modest one.

Yes Dooku sought power, but he honed his saber skills for decades and did appreciate skill over raw, brutish power without finesse.

Anakin also let his Dejm So style adapted some elements of Makashi.

Both Dooku and Anakin have a sense of entitlement, Dooku's from his noble background and Anakin's from being called the Chosen One, but besides that and a few unorthodox traits they're actually pretty different for the most part.

Dooku was an idealist who was looking for the best in both the Jedi and the Republic, and anything or anyone that fell short of that ideal was a failure in his eyes. When one of his apprentices admitted having feelings about him, he orchestrated her removal from the Jedi order, because he saw her as a failed Jedi. The fact that the two organizations didn't live up to his standards is partially why he went to the dark side, and his plan was to turn the Jedi into a force that ruled the galaxy without the corrupt Republic Senate. He was composed, very intelligent both philosophically and tactically, and the greatest scion of the Jedi Order's values until his betrayal.

Anakin is nowhere near the idealist Dooku is. He doesn't like the company of politicians because he finds them untrustworthy, besides Sidious of course, and wants only to improve himself instead of the whole Jedi Order. He allowed Ferus Olin to fail and get someone killed simply out of jealousy, and has repeatedly fallen short of what it meant to be an ideal Jedi. He has never shown any desire to improve the Jedi Order, not even taking an apprentice until one was forced upon him, and fights only to defend those he cares for. He is brash, reckless, and doesn't give the proper respect his elders deserve, making him seem to Dooku as almost the epitome of a bad Jedi.

Obi-Wan was always the one Dooku preferred, both because of Qui-Gon being his master and because he is seen by many as the closest to being the ideal Jedi. To Dooku Anakin must seem like some spoiled brat Obi-Wan has to constantly take care of, and the only reason he didn't kill him in their many conflicts is because of Sidious' orders.
