There are a lot of very naive people online. Naive hormone-addled juvenile boys who think they will find a girlfriend in a game; naive girls who start threads like this as if they believe it will cause the former to question and change their behaviour. It won't, because the only thing that will change their behaviour is age and the kind of experience you get by not spending all of your time on the internet.

MMOs can be wretched hives of scum and frustrated virginity. You should never be surprised by the unpleasant attitudes of some of their more desperate denizens. Use the tools at your disposal to mitigate your exposure to them. Starting a thread like this does exactly the opposite.

When I started SWTOR I followed the same thing, old habits die hard I guess, and I created a male Trooper. However, once I joined my guild and started using voice chat with them, it was obvious I was female. Everyone in my guild has been cool and we have a couple of other girls in the guild as well.

We run a teamspeak server and recently put our photos as avatars for fun.

However, recently, we had a situation where we had a pug DPS join our OPs group because we were missing a dps. We invited him into TS and the second he noticed that I was a girl, I started getting tells from him almost right away. I have no idea how young/old he was, but I'm 26 and am not in the mood to have guys flirting with me over an MMO.

I also haven't seen anything like this in a while, nor heard of it, and figured it was a dying thing with mmos where guys have finally realised that "yeah, girls play too." But apparently not.

Edit:

Let me add by saying a few things:
1) No. This does not shock me. I was just hoping that the MMO community has a whole has grown away from the flirt with females in a video game mentality. But I realize after posting this that expecting a community which will always have younger people in it, makes that impossible, which makes this whole thread pointless.

2) I wasn't complaining. I wasn't attention whoring. I was just merely bringing it up as a topic of discussion. I had no intention to insulting anyone either. If I have, then I apologize.

3) I graduated from college where in my major (programming) the male to female ratio was 25:1. So yes, I am used to being 'outnumbered', around some socially awkward guys, and also being treated as one of the guys sometimes. I'm also used to guys flirting with me, even when I have no interest in men.
Its not, "you guys" suga. Its one simpleton minus a clue. As much as you may hate that, there are those men that hate being generalized in such ways with headings such as yours. Its not "all men's fault" that this guy harassed you....and part of the reason that there are males that act in such ways is that there are women that thrive on this type of attention....or any attention.
May the Schwartz be with you....

I have found its best to judge a book by its cover.
A persons personality can be seen by the way they treat themselves. It would be foolish to not kinda judge the guy with the prison neck tattoo before you hand him your car keys.

You see an obese slob, you can bet her house is nasty
If someone does not take care of themselves enough to hit the gym once in a while they dont have enough self worth to be worth my time.

Being over weight is bad for your health and can be managed
(i dont say easiliy, because it can be hard but its life or death when it comes to your body)

That may seem superficial but I like strong people in general.
You are ignorant beyond belief.

My foster mother some years back was over weight(she would be termed clinically obese),but her house was spotless, she raised me well, and would have many foster kids pass through her home on a temporary basis while waiting for permanent placements, nicest woman you could hope to meet.

Glucose boosts peoples cognitive performance, sugar is actually beneficial to the brain. In moderation of course.

But,i agree being overweight does not confer longevity, even slightly.

Here's a cut out of some interesting information.

The source of the youngness is not located in Shangri-La, the mythical place on Himalaya where people never got old. The heaven of longevity is encountered in the Japanese island of Okinawa, which, besides detaining the record of longevity and centenaries of the world, is the only place on the planet where 80-90 years olds live like persons 30 years younger.

Ancient Chinese legends already called Okinawa "the land of the immortals". Thousands of people saw it: 7 years ago Seikichi Uehara, 96, defeated an ex box champ in his 30's. Or the case of Nabi Kinjo, 105, that killed with a flyswatter a poisonous snake Here you see 100 years old persons that do not even think about retirement.

There are 457 persons on Okinawa aged 100 or over, an average of 35 for each 100,000 inhabitants. It is the highest in the world.

If Japanese people live longer than any other nation, the Okinawa inhabitants reach ages that take by surprise even the other Japaneses: an average of 86 for women and 78 for men.

But the real shocking factor is not that Okinawa people reach these ages, but that they get old in a much better state. The statistics reveal a significantly
lower risk of heart attack and stroke, cancer, osteoporosis, Alzheimer And some Okinawans on their 90's ensure and reinsure that they still have sex life (without Viagra). Even if scientists insist that this has not been tested scientifically.

After decades of research, medics and anthropologists reached the conclusion that there are two main factors behind the longevity in this island: alimentation and a healthy lifestyle that experts believe that can be imitated. The aliments eaten by the Okinawans can be found everywhere, even if there may be also something about the soil of the island.

The traditional diet of Okinawa consists in portions made of a bowl of cooked food and a fruit. Okinawans eat daily seven portions of vegetables and fruits, seven of cereals and two of soy products. They take various portions of fish weekly and very sporadically meat and dairy products. Overall, their diet is low in calories and contains a lot of vegetables.

It's one in this PUG. And then it's one in that Op. And one next time, and one the time after that, and so on. And it's cumulative, just like when 4 guys hit on you in a bar and you are really rude to the 5th because, Jeebus H Christ, can't a girl just have a drink?

And it's trivialised, and we're told it's our fault, and we should just go away because gaming's really for men anyhow, and if we poke our heads in, we're asking for it.

And yes, it's only a small, teeny minority of men. And yes, there are some women with self esteem so low they think any attention must be good. That doesn't mean it's OK, or acceptable. There's good mannered, grown up behaviour, and there's bad, douchey behaviour. And you get to choose which one you are going to go for.
Two blasters; no waiting!

You are in an mmo where the average age is lower than 18 an i am sure of it.And its like that in most mmos so when a kid finds that a girl in on the other side of the char he is seeing he is bound to say stupid things. But some girls also like to pretend they are men and say stupid things so it comes really to if you want to hear them out or just /ignore name

Judging by the 18 pages of posts you got related to this topic, I'm going to go with, "No, sexually frustrated manchildren on the internet are not over female gamers yet."

Right off lemme say I'm NOT calling you out over this or anything like that, Jedip... I mean, this is an overused inaccurate statement that's still used exactly because it's overused and inaccurate, hah. It just always makes me think of something.

Many years ago, back at the dawn of the internet age, yes, before there was anything we even called 'the internet', I used to frequent local BBS Meets. The gender ratios at these did typically favor males, but not by the numbers that are trumpeted these days. It was at worst 70/30 and at best pretty close to 50/50, but probably averaged 60/40. The guys were always happy to see the gals, certainly, but there was never this 'OMG a GIRL, how can you be here, this isn't for you!'. It was just 'Oh cool! Hey, are you a SysOp? Come on in, have some pizza!' (these Meets always seemed to happen at local pizza joints).

What happened when online actually evolved into the world wide web/internet? Did we XXers go into hiding? Flee for our lives? Abandon virtual reality for the real deal? Was my local network area just an odd outlier in gender ratios? I don't know. I never left, and I never plan to. I'll just continue to scratch my head and wonder what the blazes happened, I suppose.

I've always been here. I'm sure there are plenty of others just like me. I'm sure there are plenty of others that grew up with the internet in their lives, who learned to stay quiet because it's a rather unfriendly place (and not just to females). Just keep in mind that the anonymous person you're talking or mouthing off to could be anyone from your grandmother to your little sister and you'd never know it. (Ok, maybe not YOUR grandmother/sister, but I know a 70 year old grandma who got hit up for some rather kinky cyber, oh if only the guy on the other end had ANY idea what was going on at her end of the line...hahahaha!!)

Wow, I think this person got what they wanted.

Attention.

There ya go, thats all they wanted.

It doesn't matter what gender you are, play the game and ignore the trolls out there (like me)

And seriously, I doubt this happens.

Now ladies (or for some gentlemen) stop being Attention _ _ _ _ _ _ (fill in the blank, H R O W E S)
