"He's an expert swordsman and a hard taskmaster."- Qui-Gon Jinn

Many of you know that Plo Koon is my favorite character (and if you don't, well now you do ), but he has remained sort of a background character. So I thought I would discuss Plo Koon in this thread. Much like I did with Count Dooku, I will leave Plo Koon's activities in the Clone Wars out because The Clone Wars TV show is expanding on what we know of the Clone Wars. So here we go...

We begin with the young Jedi Plo Koon taken under the wing of Jedi High Council member Tyvokka. Plo Koon was noticed for his strong connection to the Force, a trait that runs strong in his family as his uncle and niece were both Jedi. Plo Koon also had a strong moral code, characteristic of the Kel Dor to see problems in black and white, he would act on his moral code swiftly, bordering on vigilantism. This, combined with his sarcastic wits, would try his master's patience for many years.

After a few years of training with Tyvokka, Plo Koon took the Jedi Knights trials and was Knighted by the Jedi High Council. As a Jedi Knight, Plo Koon elected to undertake missions on his own, while focusing on his lightsaber skills. Additionally, Plo Koon returned to his homeworld of Dorin to study with the Baran Do Sages, learning many of their techniques. Such teachings would benefit others decades after his death.

Only a few years after attaining Knighthood, Plo Koon was approached by Master Tyvokka to join him on the Jedi High Council. Like his friend Qui-Gon Jinn, Plo Koon declined, instead he was intent on achieving a stronger mind a greater skill. He did, however, join Master Tyvokka on a mission to Troiken. Along with several other Jedi, Plo Koon and Tyvokka acted as diplomats for the Republic in a dispute between the Trade Federation and a pirate group led by Iaco Stark. Stark had been stealing bacta supplies and selling them at a lower price than the Trade Federation could afford, thus forcing them to ask for aid. Negotiations proceeded well, but members of the Galactic Senate demanded more decisive action. Thus, they sent a strike force against Stark's pirates. This degenerated negotiations and Master Tyvokka was killed in a cross-fire. Following his master's death, Plo Koon led the Republic forces to a swift victory over Stark's pirates. Plo Koon was hailed as a hero of the Republic and gained the respect of his comrades and fellow Jedi.

Shortly after the Stark Hyperspace War, Plo Koon was granted a lite-time membership of the Jedi High Council, per the final wish of Master Tyvokka. As a member of the Council, Plo Koon rarely spoke, preferring to listen to the debates of the other Jedi Masters and offer insight where needed. When he did speak, the Jedi Council honored and respected his wisdom.

Shortly before the Yinchorri Uprising, Plo Koon joined Master Rancisis of the Council of Reconciliation. The Reconciliation Council served as a Jedi court system, so to speak, passing judgment on certain Jedi after they are accused of falling to the Dark Side of the Force, or for committing a crime. The Reconciliation Council consisted of five Masters, two Masters held permanent seats, while the other three rotated. Masters Plo Koon and Rancisis held the two permanent seats, while other Jedi sat in from time-to-time. The Reconciliation Council also worked closely with the Republic Diplomatic Corps to solve disputes across the galaxy.

During the Yinchorri Uprising, Plo Koon worked with his close friend, Micah Giett, to find the Yinchorri rebel base. Upon their arrival to the Yinchorri bubble city, the two Masters found a group of Yinchorri as well as fellow Masters Lilit Twoseas and K'Kruhk. During an ambush by Yinchorri rebels, Micah Giett was killed while defending his fellow masters during their escape off-world. To honor the memory of his fallen friend, Plo Koon took Giett's Padawan, Bultar Swan, as his Padawan learner. He would see her quickly rise to the rank of Jedi Knight.

Shortly after the Yinchorri Uprising, the Jedi Council learned of a terrorist group calling themselves Jin'ha were mining and synthesizing cortosis ore on the planet Obredaan. Cortosis was an illegal substance in the Republic so the Jedi Coucnil sent Plo Koon and Eeth Koth to put an end to its production. Upon their arrival to the system, their shuttle was shot down and the two Jedi captured. The Jedi Council quickly dispatched Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi to rescue the two Masters and aid them in their mission.

Qui-Gon located the secret factory where the two Masters were held and quickly rescued them. The four Jedi then made quick work of the factory. Shortly after the factory was destroyed, Plo Koon saw a Trade Federation transport ship leave the system, indicating Trade Federation involvement in the Jin'ha. Plo Koon would later test Obi-Wan Kenobi's skills in a practice duel, with Kenobi proving the victor. This would be a testament to Obi-Wan's skill later in his life.

During the debacle at Naboo, Plo Koon took a new Padawan, a Trandoshan named Lissarkh. He was also present when Qui-Gon Jinn told the Council of the re-emergence of the Sith, as well as when he brought Anakin, whom Qui-Gon considered the Chosen One, before the Council. The Council was hesitant to train the boy, as Yoda could not sense his future. Before they could make a decision, Qui-Gon was killed on Naboo by a Zabrak assassin. Plo Koon and several other Jedi attended Qui-Gon's funeral on Naboo.

After the Battle of Naboo, Plo Koon traveled with several Jedi Council members to Malastare to negotiate a peace between the royal family and a terrorist organization called the Red Iaro. The Jedi were unexpectantly turned on and attacked by their supposed allied. After quickly defeating the ambush, Plo Koon attempted to apprehend the terrorist leaders while the rest of the Jedi dealt with the royal family. The terrorist leader escaped, but was quickly killed by a podracer.

Over the next decade, Plo Koon witnessed the rise of a seperatist movement led by fallen Jedi Count Dooku. During this time, a large group of people calling themselves the People's Inquest marched on the Jedi Temple to force the Jedi to be more accountable to the government. Plo Koon acted quickly, using a Jedi Mind Trick to send them away.

Shortly after an assassination attempt of Naboo Senator Padme Amidala, Plo Koon accompanied Mace Windu and a massive task force of Jedi to Geonosis to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Padme Amidala. The rescue quickly boiled down to a terrible battle. Amidst the chaos, Plo Koon and Ki-Adi Mundi infiltrated a Droid Control Ship to shut down the droid army. Unfortunately, the droid army had a back up control center and the two Jedi were captured and taken to the arena. The remaining Jedi were faced with certain death until Master Yoda arrived with the Clone Army to rescue them. The Jedi were taken out of the arena where Plo Koon would rally a small army of troops and lead them into their first battle in The Clone Wars.

Plo Koon was made a general in the Clone Army and led his own task force of Clone Troopers to several victories during the Clone Wars. Plo Koon had made a special bond between himself and his soldiers. Plo Koon acted as a front-line leader during the war, but also took an advisory position from time-to-time.

During the final stages of the Clone Wars, Plo Koon led his forces in a clean sweep of the Nemoidia systems. During an air-raid of Cato Nemoidia, Plo Koon was shot down by his Clone Escort in compliance with Order 66. Imperial Anti-Jedi Propangandist Sate Pestage took great care in crafting Plo Koon's death to marr his image in the eyes of the people. Official Imperial Records claim the Jedi Master made a suicide attack on a Nemoidian Grub Nursery.

However, sixty years later, Plo Koon's knowledge of the Baran Do techniques would provide immeasurable aid to Grand Master Luke Skywalker in his quest to follow Jacen Solo's journey and discover the reason for his fall to the Dark Side.

Plo Koon was one of the greatest swordsmen of his day, having mastered the fifth form of lightsaber combat. Plo Koon would display his mastery of the fifth form when he defeated Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress while suffering from a broken left arm. He easily defeated Ventress and forced her to flee.

Plo Koon was one of the most powerful Jedi of his time. He wore talons on his fingers to augment his already considerable Force power. Plo Koon was a skilled telekinetic, capable of moving objects without looking at them. He had also perfected his use of Electric Judgment. The Jedi Council frowned upon his use of a power too similar to Force Lightning, but Plo Koon believed that its power was too great to ignore. As such, Plo Koon perfected the use of Electric Judgment to ensure that its power would not cause him to fall to the Dark Side.

As a member of the Baran Do sages, Plo Koon studied many of their techniques including the Ayna-seff ability.

Plo Koon was also capable of using the Force to manipulate his environment. Combined with his expert knowledge of physics, he could create dense fogs, small whirlwinds, freeze rivers and small lakes, and raise or decrease the surrounding temperature to incapacitate his foes.

In addition to his considerable skill with the blade and power in the Force, Plo Koon was a master at hand-to-hand combat and the third best pilot in the Jedi Order. Bested by Anakin Skywalker and Saesee Tiin.

Plo Koon was a wise and powerful Jedi Master, respected by his peers as well as his enemies. The Sith Lord Darth Maul wished greatly to face Plo Koon in battle, to test his skills against that of Plo Koon's.

Here is where we end our look at the Kel Dor Jedi Master. Our next character assesment will be of a man who is probably the greatest tactician of all time.

Thrawn?
Hapan: "This creature has information that could lead us to a woman who has been kidnapped. We will get that information."
Luke: "This woman is a citizen of the New Republic, and if you do not take your hands off her, I will take your hands off you."

I also love Plo's clone troopers in TCW. His Wolf Pack (along with Commander Wolffe himself) is pretty awesome.

My favorite arcs of TCW have been the arcs with Plo Koon in them. I'm glad TCW is exploring the exploits of some of the lesser known Jedi during the war.

I agree. I was hoping to see Cin Drallig teaching those younglings how to use their lightsabers. That would have been cool. Hopefully they will show him soon.

Yeah.. that was honestly the stupidest thing for Ahsoka to be in that episode. I mean.. she was a padawan for crying out loud! She was acting like an all-knowing Jedi Knight, and that really pissed me off. The Order would never have sent here on that mission. (off-topic sorry)

That arc would have been perfect for Cin Drallig to take part in. After all, the Younglings need someone to teach them how to use those lightsabers. Why not resident Lightsaber combat expert Cin Drallig?

Anyway...
