Fleet Rakata Vendor armoring question

I am not a new player, but have just started looking at post-L50 improvements for my armor. I noticed today the Rakata vendor at fleet has armoring pieces. The pieces seem to state they belong to a particular shell, like Armoring for boots, chest, etc...

I don't understand. I have orange gear (mostly) on my warrior. So, can I buy the Rakata Armoring for chest from the vendor and put it on his chest piece? Or does it have to go on a Rakata chest piece?

If anybody has a good link to an explanation or guide about these armoring pieces I would appreciate it.
I don't know if this is a Sith thing, but at the beginning of every game conversation my first thought is "You are so dead"...
