I haven't been playing for a while, but am I not supposed to get an augment slot component when I reverse engineer stuff?

The only things you can r/e for augment kit components are player crafted items. Which type of component will depend on the level of the item. I can't remember the other tiers but the MK-6 components come for level 47 & 49 items.

I tried a hilt I had crafted, but that didn't give me anything. So not all player crafted items yield augmentation slot components.

It only works with crafted items that can recieve an augment slot themselves. So hilts, barrels, armourings, mods, enhancements, augments, med packs, adrenals, stims and colour crystals won't work. Actual equippable items (armour, weapons, implants, earpieces, offhands and I guess relics) do, provided they're crafted by other people.
