Sending out companions.

My marauder is lvl 39, and has 5 companions(including the ship droid) but can only send out 3 of them.

Do I need to be level 40 for the 4th companion or do I unlock it after a certain planet?

It's level-based. IIRC, it's 40 for 4 companion assignments and 47 for 5.
As if I have anything worth putting in a signature...

i believe its 41 and 48, not 40 and 47

On some toons, I've had it glitch on me and not let me send out the extra companion until I logged out and logged back in.

yes it sometimes happens if something in your class story takes your companion away.
