Darkness vs. Deception

First of all, sry for making 1 billionth thread about choosing the skill tree but this seems to be the best place to ask for advice.

So I made now a Sith Assassin and I am enjoying every second of playing it. I wanted to have sort of advice about Darkness and Deception.

I have been scrolling google finds and vids and yadayada about Darkness and Deception builds. I am atm a Deception lil' lvl 23 sinnie and I love PvP even though I am a total noob in it. I enjoy hiding in shadows and mauling my prey before getting teamed up and force cloaking and running away to lick my wounds. I like being a Deception Assassin but I am waaayyy too squishy IMO.

I've been reading controversial reviews of both Deception and Darkness builds. The thing I worry about in Deception is my squishiness and the Darkness is if I am viable. I've read that Darkness loses in DPS to Maras and Powertechs and I kinda want my Assassin to be on top in DPS. Does it actually matter if my DPS is highest if I can just force cloak, blackout and sprint away?

I'd like to know if Darkness is viable or not since it seems to be the right for me at this moment.

And a bit off-topic: Is there going to be by any chance a possibility to change ur character's looks and especially body size in the future? I am a body type 2 since I thought it would suit me best but a tank simply has to be body type 3 duh haha.

Darkness is a tank build, not DPS.

I am well aware of that but I've read and watched it can do decent damage.

What I was asking is if it was viable compared to another perhaps more tanking orientated classes and acs as an example jugs, pts or maras. How does it stand up against them?

Your only a lvl 23 - deception is not nearly as squishy anymore - entropic field helps with damage reduction, blackout helps with 25 percent damage reduction as well as the 2 point talent in the madness tree
55 Assassin - 55 Sorc - 55 Jug - 55 Marauder - 55 Sniper
55 Operative - 55 merc - 55 Powertech

I guess if your looking at darkness as a dps build, you would have to compare it to similar things, such as jugg tank hybrids like 16/25 or some such thing. No idea what the vanguard equivalent is, if they have one. Also no idea how they compare, someone else will have to help you with that.

Lets set something straight. Darkness is a tank spec that does good damage for a tank spec.

Its nowhere near the marauder's number or a dps PT. Its similar to a shield tech PT pretty much. Your main strength will always be TAKING damage rather than dishing it out.

If you want a good PvE DPS spec I'd say madness, or the hybrid people are using since the patch that seems to show promise, of a maul/DoT mix.

Deception however DID get more survivability from the patch, rather noticeably I'd say. Its just not a favorite for ops.

Deception: Burst Damage. You'll kill enemies faster than you would as a Tank spec. But their survivability is much lower than Tankasins, due to Surging Charge (the charge you should usually have activated) not boosting your armor rating. If you stealth up and get the drop on most classes (aside from tanks) you can usually kill them before they know what hit them. Due to the fact that most battles in ToR are short skirmishes as opposed to long battles of attrition, speccing burst-dps would put you at a slight advantage, once you are in end-game gear.

Darkness: Survivability. You'll do more damage overall compared to a Deceptasin, simply because your alive longer to do more damage. But you'll find yourself fighting the same person for a longer time than you would as a deception spec because the burst dps isn't as high, but the upside is, you can take pretty much any class in the game 1 vs. 1 including Tanks, since Tankasins do noticeably higher dps than other Tank classes.

They aren't worse or better than eachother, just different. Depends on your playstyle. If you are having fun as a Deceptasin there's no real reason to switch specs, as you're just as viable in PvP as a Tankasin. If your good at either spec you will often find yourself at anywhere from 3rd to 1st place in damage. None of our specs can consistantly outdamage Marauders if said Mara is doing his job right, but both specs can give them a run for their money, as good Deceptasins can out burst Maras and Tankasins can survive a lot longer than them.

You're level 23, I wouldn't worry about any of this until you're 50.

Darkness spec in full dps gear can deal a nice amount of damage. In general i think we have a little higher overall damage of all tank classes
