Will the game survive 2013 ?

Thing is that other mmos were able to get by on life support because they didn't have to pay massive license fees like Swtor has. And I remember the devs saying that the game will only be profitable if they manage to retain 500k subs, and we all know how quickly subs were dropping over the last months.

Swtor needs a large revenue and it seems to be out of the question that it could just go on forever like many small-community mmos, think Warhammer, AoC, DDO or Lotro. (all of them fantasy mmos, )

With some games, I feel very certain about their long-term sustainability.

With TOR, we can be hopeful and continue to support it, but I must say we have not seen anything yet that would make me think the team at BioWare has what it takes to keep the boat afloat.

In most cases MMOs die slowly (CoX's death came as a huge suprise because no one saw it coming) TOR will contiune for the next year undoubtedly.

the worst case scenerio is it gets smaller and little new content is produced. but it'll still be HERE.

You have an issue with that, write down the names of the management at Paragon Studios and make sure to play one of their products again. They showed extreme arrogance and lack of responsibility by what they tried to do with their parent company. NCsoft made and example of them.
THANK YOU i didnt know why they closed it

so a SUCCESSFUL game got closed because the suits cant agree,,GREAT

but again,,how will that help this game? it just makes things even worse

Depends how the lisence fees work, if BW paid a lump sum at the start, or pays a fixed set, or shares a percentage of the profits. BW said the 500k is needed, mostly from the prespective of new content I think (hireing voice actors is expensive)

Now, let's look at this game from a free to play player's point of view shall we?

You can only play 3 warzone per week.
You can only have 1 crew skill.
Your money caps.
You can't trade.
You can only talk on trade chat once per min.
You have 1 quickbar.
Your CDs are longer than everybody else.

And these are just the tip of the iceberg.
Which means the only thing you can do in the game, most of the time, is just grind, do quest, and grind some more. Who on earth would find playing with such stupid restrictions fun? If playing the game is no fun, who would invest money in it?
It's actually not as restrictive as you think - check out the latest dev tracker about the changes they're making based on feedback (added another quickbar, more warzones per week), as well as "preferred status" which doesn't seem hard to obtain.

If anyone doesn't think this game will survive 2013, just look around at all the other MMOs that have done far, far worse, for far longer and still running
