Assault Specialist PVP: Vanguard/Commando?

I want to pvp as a Trooper and after looking at the different dps specs Assault Specialist seems like a fun way to go. But that begs the question of which advanced class should I choose? Commando with its higher dps or vanguard for survivability? I'm sure in the end that either way would be pretty viable, but I would appreciate some insight and advice from the community.

from the info I gathered before the forum wipe vanguard assault is the more mobile of the two so it just depends on how you want to play, run and gun or more gunning and less running

I'm not sure if Tactics is any less mobile; all of our DPS abilities are instant cast as far as I can tell. Only the commando is saddled with casting for all their damage. The big difference between the Vanguard DPS trees is whether you want direct DPS (high energy cell) vs. DOTs (plasma cell). Either way you go, you're basically a melee class if you want to DPS.

I think the vanguard gets a charge or two by default, right? That would make them immensely more mobile than commandos, which of course get heals and casted abilities by default.

I believe he was asking for the difference between assault commando and assault vanguard though, not assault and tactics.

Both look to be valid and immensely enjoyable. They are, of course, very similar, though there are a few notable differences.

In order to optimize damage, the commando must remain stationary to cast and channel abilities.

In order to optimize damage, the vanguard must remain within melee range of the target.

This said, the commando can also deal reasonable mobile damage while the vanguard can also deal reasonable damage from a range.

Beyond that you should consider the commando's ability to heal and the vanguard's ability to utilize the taunt and guard mechanics (though guard requires ion cell).
