That's the direction this game is going and it pisses me off big time.
Very same !

I love this game, I truely do, but it irks me that the SO-CALLED "Subscribers will still have access to 100% of the content without adding more money" NO LONGER holds true if this comes to pass.

If at any point, there is a content, a *single* item, a place, a quest, whatever, that I can't access to because of any new system in place, without having to pay on TOP of my sub : then for the very first time I will consider unsubbing, and by unsubbing I DO mean there won't be any more money EVER coming from me and going to BW or EA's pocket, EVER.

I've bought the collector edition, and have subbed since the beginning and played the game since then but there STILL is a limit...

Agree. I too feel the same.

I for one will not be happy if I have to pay for an expansion or content update with Cartel Coins (or whatever) on top of paying a subscription, after all that subscription payment has already gone towards paying the staffing costs to produce the expansion.

I am, however, more than willing to use Cartel coins for things like character customization, items, name changes, server transfers etc.

Yeah DDO was orginally subscription too, however I've never seen an MMORPG better built for the F2P/Cashshop model than DDO was, which was probably why it was a massive failure as a subscription MMORPG.

But the LOTRO/DDO VIP model might be OK, that is you pay a "sub" and you can save up Cartel Coins to buy content.
Real Star Wars space combat please, not Star Wars Fox! Maybe some PvP and flight too?

Very well said, I feel exactly the same way and will make my decision Nov-Dec.

I think Soluss is no longer with us, but to refresh the context.....

The people who will be getting milked will be the non-subscribing players, just like very other freemium game. Market data clearly shows that the average revenue extraction per non-paying subscribers is ~80-90% of the subscription price.

With subscribers getting cartel coin allowances each month, the subscribers are actually getting a discount of sorts on their sub under the new model (to offset the coin price of any premium content not included in the normal sub)

You need to get your context right Soluss. AND you need to do some googling and research how monitizing MMOs in a freemium model actually works. There is a reason that subscription only MMOs are going extinct... primarily driven by consumer demand for more flexibility and options in how to access and play and MMO.

Before asking anyone to get their context right or googling anything you should first and foremost understand what they say and not answer completely off-topic and put whatever they didn't say in their mouth while at the same time starting your own speculation, the very same thing you advise people *not* to do in many many of your other posts.

Yup that's how cashshop supposed "free to play" games make thier money, the average customer pays pretty much the $15 a month rate, only in cashshop items, not subscription.

However the worry is that to existing in F2P SWTOR you'll even up paying a $15 a month "sub" AND still end up having to spend a lot in the cashshop too.

VIP account setups like LOTRO you don't have to....... or didn't orginally, but it has turned to something approaching that over time.

It's not as simple as you think. The thing they need to discuss is how do you class a subscriber, if they launch F2P and then someone subs after a couple of weeks, for 1 month, just to play makeb only to let the sub slip once it's complete then is that ok. What will more than likely happen is that Makeb will be added to the Cartel Market (even for subs) but your free cartel coins will cover the purchase, hence rewarding loyalty while people who maybe only subbed for a total of 3 months will have to wait for it. This may mean you have to wait a month to buy that boost you wanted or that piece of gear or whatever but to me that's ok.

It's no more a worry it seems, but more like a reality.
You can also check this thread to verify that reality : http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=535375
