Roles are versatile and not set in stone in most sports (outside of American Football I guess) and depending on the situation change. Even in baseball a player may be able to play multiple positions. That's not how it is with the trinity.

Nothing is wrong with that player. He wants to play HIS player how he wants to play it. He has a game style that he likes and that is what makes him enjoy the game. Why should he HAVE to adapt if he doesn't want to play as a tank or DPS? What is the alternate? To not play with his friend and go find a appropriate group...or to have his friend roll the appropriate role...how is that okay? The whole point of the game is to play with your friends and have fun doing so.

I've played healer most of my MMO life...It tends to get boring at times watching green bars and playing whack a mole, sometimes I'd like to attack and be more aggressive.
Of course, great players can play a variety of roles, depeding on their skillset of course, but I wouldnt say MMOs that need to have specific roles like aggro tanks are worse than GW2, the same way I wouldnt say soccer is bad because someone is "forced" to be a goalkeeper, hell, I even remember one game where one goalie was injured, the other got a red card so one of the defenders, Terry, had to put on the gloves, nobody said "zomg soccer sux0rs he was forced to be goalkeeper we cant all be strikers gg"

Their level of enthusiasm I think was genuine, but myopic. I think the old quote of "They just don't get it" to explain away issues that metasticized later only goes to show how out of touch with their customer base they actually were, in truth it seems that Bioware Devs were the ones who "just didn't get it".

Well they are getting it now in the form of pink slips and canceled subs.
Great summary! Well done

Just gonna say, Blizzard lied about Diablo 3 too.

Just sayin.
On the Internet, you can be anything you want. It is strange so many people choose to be stupid.

All MMO's are lied about in production to make it black and white, deadlines make for things to not come into initial release. Also every mmo is over hyped lol welcome to the MMO and Gaming community people!

My biggest disappointment was the removal of the consequence system with your companions and story, where a companion could leave you or get killed.... when this was removed all consequence in the story were negated and the story choices lost any depth it could of had... It's True players would of probably QQ'ed that they killed of a companion they now wanted back, but you know what to bad.... People might of complained about it but in the long run the depth of that decision making would of kept them playing because now everything you did had a consequence to it.... By removing it they made the choices you make meaningless....

I do believe Bioware had big plans, but couldn't follow through on them be it time constraints, stubborn Dev's, I remember an interview where one Dev said he hated player housing and didn't want it in the game, which kind of showed you the close mindedness of some Dev's... I was in beta for several months and all those great ideas and plans weren't even in Beta.... well except the consequence system which they removed really quickly in beta due to players QQ'ing about it, probably the same players that left the game from being bored.... go figure...

Pretty much Every MMO has objective type open world pvp for it's end game, so I'm really surprised there was none for SWTOR, Illum was a complete joke...

Creating a sandbox world with a theme park in the middle would of been the way to go... allow player ran cities outside the theme park area with crafting playing a bigger part of the game.... This would of given player something to do as they wait for more theme park content.... Maybe have rare type beasts that you would have to hunt down and kill and get a trophy head to place in your house.... or a dance/music mini games like LOTRO had, there was ton of stuff they could of added to keep players busy while they create new theme park content, but instead we just end up with static boring dailies we do each day with really nothing else to do...
F2P is like driving on a long stretch of highway with toll booths every 1/2 mile

I don't know if it was on the side of the engine or the netcode, but this game cannot support a large ammount of player so world pvp on Ilum was pretty much shut down, now you can play devils advocate all you want and dont forget to send my regards to grandma
I like this reply so much, I think I'm going to get it tattooed on my **edit**!

My biggest disappointment is the Fleet, my god what a drab place to be at all the freaking time. There is little to no incentive to leave the place, except for dailies and some FP, once you reach 50, what's the point, you can even teleport to the places now. Why have you own little square mile with, with 15 different teleports. The lack of exploration/sensation is so severe. Because of this, all those cool little memories you would get with any mmo is non-existent. You follow your path down from a - b in your quest, and before you know it, you'll spend the rest of your time, looking at fleet interior. But i must say the quest path is really well crafted for the most part.
