Out of line, or Part of the game PVP Ganking on a PvE server?

I don't think it's right to gank ppl no matter which side they're on, on a PVE server. Hence the designation PVE.

I'm an Imp player, and like the OP, I've no real huge interest in PVP. If I feel like killing players, I'll join a warzone, and have done so, numerous times. I have my fun...I kill, I get killed, and everyone goes in expecting to do that.

I play on a PVE server, because I just like to relax, kill my mobs, do my quests and do so in peace. I played a PVP server first, and didn't really enjoy the stress of looking over my shoulder every minute. Some people relish that kind of 'excitement'...I'm not one of them, and clearly the OP isn't either. I'm fine with areas on maps, designated for PVP, if people want that for a PVE server, but mainstream areas, where people are questing, no. With an area...people know you're there for a fight, and will oblige you...so yeah, something needs to be done about griefing people just out to do their quest.

You know, there are hundreds of thousands of amazing programmers out there who'd kill for a job in gaming, whose entire reason they picked the career is to make games. Who risk everything getting scammed into huge student loans by schools like Full Sail, just because they dream of working for companies like you ... yet you hire these monkeys who cant get anything right. Unbelievable.
Yeah I was sure they claimed to have fixed that, but I didn't feel like digging it up. Maybe it broke last patch? I haven't seen a version of this thread in months before this one popped up...

I don't disagree with you. Being on a PVE server, that is your right to quest in peace and not be bothered by others. But I'll assume that, since you're dedicated to not fighting in open world pvp, your pvp flag is always off. This is fine and this is completely your decision. No one judges that.

There is a reason why SWTOR implemented pvp flags for PVE servers. If you turn on your flag, you are basically telling everyone that you are interested in engaging into combat with the opposing faction. If I see a red player, I WILL attack it. How can you be upset about this?

Seeing that communication is poor with the opposite faction, how else would you suggest initiating an open pvp event other than just start killing players in a particular area and hope that people will come out to play.

Despite being a PVE server, we had a really great turnout and response to our shenanigans the other night; this tells me that people LIKE having the option to engage in world pvp.

Meh.

You're right, I don't run with my pvp flag up on purpose. In fact if I accidentally trigger it (like being too close to a rep base) I try to relog (which i find doesn't remove it), or take a break and wait it out until it reverts. If people run with their flag up, then yeah, they're fair game, cause they're clearly looking for it. My point is this though, what about the people who were conned into being flagged...another person mentioned the methods for doing this to someone...now that isn't fair, is it. I'd be ticked off, if I was doing my thing peaceful-like, and got conned by someone, who exploited something to agitate my sidekick and get me flagged...that's the part that sucks.

I'm not against people having fun, I'm all for it, that's why I'm here, but people do have a different sense of fun...like I said, when I want a fight, I'll go to a warzone or pvp area.

It would be interesting though, if Bioware implemented battles on time...like in Rising Force Online, we'd have 'Chip Wars' where we fight for a resource tower every 8 hours, and both (actually 3) factions could come and wail on each other until the enemy's tower is defeated...I think that would be a fun draw, and one that I'd be interested in playing in too sometimes.

I had this issue last night in the Blackhole last night, my son and I had the wolf pack run up and get hit by the aoe and then bam they killed us. then I could not get my PvP flag to switch off. My son's droped in 5 min mine did not I even flagged on then off after 5 min. So I got so angry than I send a ticket stating I was quitting over this pvp bug. I logged in about 6 hours later and was basically told by a customer service rep that they would submit my ticket and complaint to supervisor for review.

Bah I should have just run on a pvp server I guess.

I understand what you are saying. The issue here, however, is a bug that allows these wolfpacks to grief people who just want to PvE. These wolfpacks know about it and no, they are not looking for world PvP, they're looking to grief (it's not just Black Hole, btw, it's 50's hitting the quest areas of Hoth and other planets as well...don't even TRY to tell me they're doing something other than griefing!). If you want world PvP on a PvE server, there's a place on Ilum and one on Tatooine for that. If you can't work up some world PvP there, then that tells me it's not as popular as you might think. Did you consider that the great response you got was due to people wanting to help out fellow guildies/friends who you were preventing from questing as opposed to an actual love of world PvP?

So. Much. THIS^

And the answer is no, they didn't "think" at all.

Can't you quickly remove the PvP flag by toggling it manually twice to get the message "The flag will be removed in 5 minutes" and then suiciding, jumping from cliff for instance to avoid repairs?

[QUOTE=Kattrax;4880400]In direct response to the OP:

I believe that myself and my guildies were responsible for this particular incident.

We had an ops group that was planning on raiding until we heard news in general chat that there was some open world pvp occurring on the Black Hole. As a group we went over to participate. Upon finding no real pvp, we decided to create some of our own.

We camped out in front of the pub base and proceeded to kill any and all pubs that tried to enter the area. I know that there was ONE incident where a group member pulled someone into a pvp flag (I think he wanted to see if it actually worked), but as a group we definitely decided that griefing wasn't something that we were interested in. I apologize if this individual was you. Our goal was to entice the pubs to come out for some open PVP. And did they ever!!

Within about 20 minutes, we had a group of at least 15 pubs storm out of their base and proceed to smash us to bits! We re-gathered and recruited about 10 more players and came back with force! We had about another hour of really solid (and fair) PVP; it was the most fun we've had in a REALLY long time. We even infiltrated their spawn area and had to juggle fighting their guardians plus any incoming pubs.

I don't know if anyone actually "won" but I do know that SWTOR would be much more fun if things like this happened on a more regular basis. I apologize to the people that got 8 vs.1'd, but if that happens in the future, your job as a

responsible pub is to recruit your friends and fight back for control of important areas like BH (or at least turn off your flag if you're not interested in pvp).

NO NO NO a thousand times NO........it is never their job to succumb to your attempts to force people into the type of pvp. You enjoy......I know this is the justification people use to explain their willingness to ruin some one else's game experierience......." I ruined your game experience it's you job to go get friends so I can have the pvp experience I want without having to roll on a server with folks who are good skilled and practiced at pvp., like a pvp server."

It is never ever ever my job as a player of this game to succumb to your manipulation...just because that is how you want tp pvp.......I am a deep supporter of this game and rarely complain...but this issue is the one thing that will push me to canceling my sub.....they need to recode so the exploits don't flag people.. And they need to hard ban those that can be proven to use the exploits discussed in this thread.....permaban or exile to a pvp server where they can test their skills against pvp orientd players.....not pve players tryingbto finish a quest.....

Many of us have full rich busy lives...when I get the pleasure of sitting down for an hour or 90 minutes to complete some quests.....I most certainly do not want to have mt time wasted by you because you hope by forcing flagging and ganging me that I will blindly give you what you want....and could have easily gotten without ruining my day by rolling on a pvp server where you belong.
