I wish they would allow the selling of accounts and characters. I would buy multiple accounts and advertise on the net to power level whatever anyone wanted and then transfer that account over for hundreds or even thousands of dollars depending on what my customer wanted.

Why not, it would be fun and I would make money. Hell, I'd even hire people to power level characters to make even more money.

However a game is like a bottle of booze once its used up its gone. I can nolonger get a buzz from it.

Granted because of game trade ins companys have used ONLINE access keys. Most new games come with it. So If i were to take my CE edition to gamestop they could take the discs back and accuire a new online access key to go with it from Bioware. Or perhaps the existing access key gets invalidated and the account completely wiped for the new gamer. However I dont think that would happen either because bioware would want to hold your account and charachters for a time in hopes you return to the game.
or you do what a lot of wow account sellers do. you make a new gmail account...transfer the game account to it, and sell the email account along with the game..might violate the eulas..but most people really dont care. There has to be a system to transfer accounts to new email addys so people that lose access to an old email addy(through loss of job etc) can still be customers.

Could this eventually mean that games like SWTOR, Mass Effect, etc... can also be resold by their owners?

I did not know that the law in Europe applied to everywhere outside of Europe.

You're wrong. The client is yours. You paid for it, you downloaded it or got a hard copy of it, even you got extra items with special hard copy editions like Collector's one for which you paid more thus those items are yours not BW's/EA's property.
What is BW's/EA's property is the server side softwar. But, to access to the server side softwer create an account is required so the account is also BW's/EA's property. That's why EULA states clearly that you cannot sell your account but if you want to sell your client you can because it is yours.

It's a puzzle of 3 pieces the client, the account and the server software. You owns one: the client; the company owns the other 2.

this person is right, they sell software access liscenses...which actually is more of a service than a product....so they own everything...especially the client files, which is why they can modify the client files at will

Thank god for that, I have felt so bad for you guys not being able to get a ton of games or for having them toned down.

This person is correct, we dont own the client. the only thing we bought was a key that gave us an account and access to the game. If you check in the EULA nothing belongs to us, not our chars, virtual items and its the same for other mmo's like wow, rift aion etc.

The only thing we do is technically rent the game, if we stop paying we can no longer play and the account is put into storage for a time that we wish to resume payment.
