I just started a few days ago and am still wondering about the main story line. What are we (the Republic) actually working towards?

well, i played through the empire side, but generally most are gearing up to re-start the war, and doing as much as possible to sabotage the other side in preperation.

the empire is relatively open about it, the republic probably less so.

naturally, the main storyline will vary from class to class, but the basic, overarching theme is the same.
Copy this signature if you believe Timothy Zahn should take over the Star Wars EU

Empire is gearing up to restart the war, Republic is trying to stabilize and consolidate in preparation for the apparently inevitable restart of the war.
Aside from that, the Republic is probably too large, too complex and too old an organisation to have a clearly identifiable goal other than the perpetuation of itself.
No, really! I am telling the truth, honestly! Look I can prove it, I am a politician! I am as honest as the day is long!
Besides, I am a terrible liar, everyone can see when I am lying - my lips are moving... oh damn, err, that last comment was off the record, right?

Greetings everyone!

You can find more of the background story of Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ in the Holonet section of the Official website. More specifically in Galactic History.

We hope this helps!

Thanks for the first two replies! Very helpful.

Could have done without the canned third response.
