So what if the game goes f2p?

Being at least somewhat f2p is keeping most MMOs viable.

Think about that. How many successful MMOs out there are able to sustain themselves on the old subscription model?

I'm not playing any game other than trying to keep your facts straight. You tried to prove someone wrong using your own fuzzy math. You were wrong.

I also made no judgement about the numbers--only reported them. Defensive much? I wonder why?

YOU say Swtor caused the market decline, then he says EA sucks and that caused the decline,You say this game is dead,He says it's not .truth be told ,spectulation is just that speculation and this disscussion is dumb .The fact is the country is in shambles economically, unemployment is throught the roof ,ppl are broke and everything is made in china , the president is giving green cards to illegal aliens and nicole simpson can't rap thats why everybodies stock has declined from Chase bank to EA games to Mama Cass' super sandwich maker so if you can afford this game ,Enjoy it if you don't then quit.let the chips fall and live life or get out and meet ppl ...me i'm married i'm not allowed any new ppl but you can make a difference plant a tree, hug a dwarf ,breath some air but in the short roll a sentinal pwn a noob and play the game

This is not wow. This is a much much much smaller game with extremely smaller number of subs. This game can't afford to lose such massive numbers in a quick time and then expect to stay as a premium game.

Just for entertainment's sake, I thought I'd mention a few bits of helpful trivia: In our world, the year is currently 2012, the President of the United States is Barack Obama, the best movie so far this summer is The Avengers, and MMORPG developers have been constantly and continuously dumbing down gameplay, with each new Triple-A MMO being easier, more forgiving, and more focused on rapid action and constant reward than the last. I'm taking, from your post, that in YOUR world, the opposite is true, and people look back on games like EQ as simplified kiddie fare, compared to the complex, time-consuming, and unforgiving games you must be playing. I'm betting in your SWTOR, there's permadeath, it takes 30 or 40 hours just to get past level 10, and there are many quests, etc, with 48 hour spawn times, not to mention 80+ man raids. Given that, I'm sure it's hard for games in your world to attain any kind of mass market popularity (though since SWTOR exists in your world, maybe it means the people in your world prefer more challenging play -- good on ya, alternate-Earth dude!). Over here on my world (I won't demean you by calling it "Earth 1" or "Earth Prime" or anything which implies it's somehow superior to your own reality), that's just not the case.

BTW, how many episodes did Firefly last in your world? If it was more than 14, do you think you could stream some over to this world while the connection between our realities is open? If you have no idea what a 'Firefly' is, then, damn, I'm sorry -- you live in some kind of hell dimension. That must suck. Firefly was awesome.

Hopefully, this will cross-post across the vibratory barrier and you'll be able to see it.
God I love creative flaming. 5 stars sir!

Right now ( 6:45 pm EST )...I just checked the server status...there are 13 servers in North America that are listed as "Standard". All the rest are Light. There is only one server on the Euro list which is Heavy and 8 which are Standard. Rest are Light. I donot know how anyone can look at that and say the game is doing well now. And yeah...sence the server transfers, according to the one tracking site, the percentage of logins has increased. But they are still down over 30% what they were at the end of last month.

Right. So the game didn't net as many subs, not nearly as many subs, as they wanted it to. That's usually the case. Now, Bioware and EA spent an ungodly amount of money on this game, so there is concern for that... it also raises the question of how expensive will new content for this game be for them to develop? Concern there too.

However: F2P is the future of MMO's. Like it or not. People are fed up with the sub fees, and honestly, I know tons of folks who would play these games if not for having to subscribe. My boyfriend pitched a conniption when, after just purchasing the game, he was told he also had to enter his credit information to subscribe before he could access his "free" month. I feel him. I know the card isn't going to get billed, but c'mon, you can't tell me it isn't a way to wrangle people into subbing.

Games have done/are doing very well on the F2P model. Just wait until Guild Wars 2. I think finally having a mainstream AAA MMO go F2P and find real success with the model will be the gamechanger for the genre. Sub fees are stupid. They are based around things like "server upkeep" which is just a silly myth. Back in the day these types of games were super expensive to upkeep, in the age of multi-million dollar gaming corporations who are public... it's just not the case anymore.

And at 6:55, ten servers in North America are listed as "Standard," three "Heavy." In Europe, ten servers are "Standard." What's your point?

His point is that if SWTOR isn't the next cultural phenomenon that, despite being over 6 years old, still has a boatload of servers sitting at high and full it must be a fail game. Obviously this logic is flawed and erroneous.
