Overleveling

It's quite simple. Since the game was designed to accomodate rolling alts, it's also designed to allow you to advance through the content while not doing *everything* in sight. This allows you to take varying paths, and alleviates some of the repetition.

However, a lot of MMO players are raging completionists. Those people will end up overleveled. That's the price they pay for their obsession, and I don't think that an accomodation needs to be made just for them.

I only have one character (Jedi Sage dps on my 2nd re-roll from dead serversr so I have cleared lvls 1-30 several times) so my view might be quite limited, but here's my take on this.

This game seems balanced to do quests on level WITH a companion character. Personally I dont like Qyzen that much (for story reasons which I wont post here due to spoliers) and I like the idea that I dont have to have him "out" all the time to do quests if I dont want to. Thus I have the option of overlevelling to do content without my companion but still pose a challenge eg I'm lvl 29 on Tatooine but 3 standard plus 1 champ mob lvl 26 can be dicey if I'm not interupting or cc-ing.

Sure things go quicker if I do use Qyzen but I like to be able to do content on my own - especially the final class quest on a planet where I fight the boss. A 1v1 Jedi duel at the end of that planet's class quests should be epic imo - not with my scaley companion going 2v1 on the boss (side note: companions seem to re-appear after any npc conversation which is damn annyoing when trying to do boss fights truely solo... didnt use to be this way. Bug?)

So tl;dr - overlevelling is there as an option to allow us to truly PURE solo content without a companion. It's really down to the individual player how much they want to abuse this.

Having said that a "turn off xp" option would be great - purely for the reason that if I'm grinding those last few fleets comms to buy an item I'm not going to turn all my quests grey. Same with Warzones. Keep the money and comms just not the xp gain.

Im waiting for the lfg tool so i can do this... I hate waiting in fleet for groups.

ive had characters that have gotten rested xp from logging out in the world and some that havent, i dont know if its a bug that u get it if not in a cantina but it does happen, however the rate at which u gain rested xp is far superior when u log off in a cantina.
p.s i have a lvl 25 that hasnt touched nar shaddaa yet

Solution: Have PVP always give XP, even when XP is toggled off.

Everquest 2 has this kind of "turn off xp" toggle that comes in various forms: for example, you can stop getting xp when you kill mobs, but you will get xp when you turn in a quest.

I like to have an "even" quest flow, where I don't overlevel the mobs too much. With a character, I have to restrain myself from both Space or PvP if I want to check out all the quest missions and flashpoints, and it's a pity, IMO.

With adjustable XP toggles (and I guess those legacy perks are a start), the situation pictured above would be no longer necessary.

I have no issues with it personally. I played all the levels with a partner (so even more XP) and was overlevelled. I still completed all the quests and the bonus missions, etc.

That said I think this gives people the freedom to play how they want to play. Want to skip a side quest? fine. Don't want to do space combat? Not to worry.

Level grinding is painful, especially at a high level. I don't mind working longer for max level provided that the experience is somewhat entertaining. So if it required twice as much XP to get to max, and there were twice as many planets to get you there, that would be fine by me.

If you do want to stay within the level range there's nothing forcing you to do everything. If you want to do everything there's nothing forcing you to stay within the level range.

Leveling is boring.I have 3 50s and the grind to get them there was so boring but I wanted to try other classes in 50 pvp..
Saying theres too much experience is mad..

you get rested xp at level 50 too iirc

you only get rested xp when you log out in rest zones like a catina, and probably all of the fleet. try it. go out to whatever planet and go log out in the middle of a quest area(like where mobs are spawning) .and you wont get any rest xp

The only way to be level 35 on Nar Shaddaa is to leave, run a couple of other planets, then go back. I know I went back at level 33 to finish up a few heroics I'd skipped too, but you didn't simply level to 35 just from Ord, Coruscant, and Nar Shaddaa. And I don't know exactly how much challenge you expected to find coming back to a low level planet after probably completing all of Chapter 1.
The bonus series area on Nar Shadaa was in the 28-32 range, if I remember right. Plenty of XP to be had there- it's just that you're not supposed to do the bonus series right after the main series that time.
