While I do believe that species selection is much too limited, I wouldn't expect any species to be added that fly in the face of the game's structure and/or the canon of the Star Wars universe.

They always hit the top five in player polls, usually top three. BioWare has a special relationship with them and served to popularize the species in the first place. And they're a relatively safe choice for a first outing - no one is going to be complaining about clipping or some such. My only problem with them doesn't stem from the species choice, but the implementation - they're coming solely to the Cartel shop.
