Why don't you play all 8 class story lines?

Returning to the OPs question:

I would like to level up all 8, but legacy gets in the way, would like a sith jedi knight, but that means a full-blooded sith empire dude. So there's 2 of my 8 spots down the tubes, leaving me only 6 for my repubs.

Sigh the alt limits are at variance with the legacy stuff.... can you say no planning by BW?

But to be fair, SWTOR has two different paths, one for each faction. Perhaps with upcoming patches, players need only do Class Quests, and gain extra xp through Space, or PvP, or FP/Ops.

The long term solution would be to add more planets and paths...but that's going to take some time.
I am glad I could shed some light on one of the possibilites of why people are not happy with the leveling experience as far as choice is concerned.

To be honest the two paths just have to do with faction and in the end they are so similar as to be the same compared to the concentric circle pool approach of WoW. In WoW vanilla ( more now) you had 3 starter sets of concentric circles that you could level in at your choice per faction and they were sufficiently different ( in look and feel I will conceed that all the quests were either kill x or deliver y in vanilla ( and for the most part still are)) as to give the perception of choice.

Remember the extra exp options from legacy 1.3 perks are not really extra its shift exp from one model to another. This will not solve the "pathing" issue as it stands today in the leveling progression but, what it does do is enable different play styles to emphasis the primary area of the game that they enjoy. Don't get me wrong I see your point that it offers something different, it's just sorta apples and oranges compared to pathing vs. choice.

I agree IF SWTOR lasts long enough to truely realize the vision that the DR.s' have stated for the game then it should have the variety in leveling that people want. Perhaps you will conceed the point that BW is so used to developing single player games that they really were not prepared for the repsonse of players when it comes to choice in leveling. This leads me to believe that no one on the creative staff really plays MMORPGs or at the very least "studdied" the competion.

Thoughts?

I've played a Jedi Knight to 50, Trooper to 37 and Sith Warrior to 31. I'm really excited to level a Scoundrel (healer) but I'm waiting for server transfers and LFG tool so that I can level primarily through healing flashpoints/PvP and space combat and just do class story quests. I'm getting pretty tired of doing the same world quests and side quests. I'm ready to just do some instance leveling for a while. I just wish BW would make the LFG tool cross server so that wait times won't be too long....

I see what people mean with how linear it is compared to WOW. It would be hard for them to provide completely alternate planets for questing, due to class stories, but it would be pretty cool, some where down the line, if they created an alternate route on each planet. Maybe have you choose which path you want to take during the first class quest on that planet and the side quests (and areas you travel to) would be different depending on the path you choose.

Though that sort of thing would probably take a long time to develop.

I will say this though.. repetitive or not, the story and VO in TOR does make questing a lot more fun for me than WOW, multiple leveling spots or not. Heck, they revamped the 1-60 leveling game in WOW with Cataclysm and I could never bring myself to play through it.

A few tips might help to make ToR and how it is probably meant to be played more enjoyable:

1. as soon as one aspect of the game bores you, play another: PvP bored me with my first lvl 50 char after some time. And I only started to play PvP, because people in my HC FP groups frustrated me. So I started a new storyline after two main aspects of being lvl 50 with first char bored me.

2. Second storyline should be played on the other side (imp/rep). So you won't get the same crap too soon.

3. PvP/Spacefights give a little XP- and equip-help here and there.

4. Alter the planets whose planet-main-quest-line you fully play. Alter the bonus-questlines. Alter the hero missions. Alter the storyline you play next so your start planet won't be the same as the last ones.

5. Use the hero-quests as and opportunity to train your skills with your new class and provide yourself with some challenge... play as many of them as you like as soon as possible only with your companion. (some I tried over a dozen times until I finally learned to use all my abilities)

6. Don't see your other chars only as twinks like in other MMOs you already know... care more for the RPG aspect.
You dont play them to lvl 50 asap for the crafting or so, you play them to lvl 50 because you want the story.

I got two chars on lvl 50 and needed 6 months for that. I still have a lot of bonus-quests and side-quests open in both chars AND I have got the feeling I spent too much time at the PC. Maybe there are other hints you can follow to make it feel less redundant.
The last and final one is: Don't burn the game... as soon as something annoys you, stop it. No: "I want to finish Belsavis today, but it is boring.... ewww, I start to hate this planet, but I go on until I feel horrible, jsut because I have the goal to finish it today." ... Simply don't cause MMO-burnout to yourself!

For me personally it turned out great to put some restrictions on my playstyle and to stick to some basic ideas like "dont burn the game" "dont burn yourself". The weaknesses the game still has look much less worrying too, if you play it the right way and don't push yourself ... it is a game. It is mostly story-driven and less based on player to player competition in my eyes... and that is how you should try to play it. If that is not what you like, well then don't play it at all. ^^
Or unsub and play soccer

i have 4 toons in all ,2 are lvl 50...and i cant bring myself to getting the other 2 there. im bored of the quests,90% of them are the same. they could have at least had other leveling routes for you to choose(ala WoW). why not allow a sith warrior to start on hutta for a change? each time you leave a planet ,you should have a choice of 3 other planets you can go level at,but sadly this game is way to linear.

Because after leveling one of each Imp class and now working on 2 Pubs the Pub storyline is weak and boring. I feel like I'm falling asleep every time "Star Wars The Return to The Andy Griffith Show" gets rolling on my Sent.

Aspiring Jedi: Golly Gee Mr. Jedi Master you are so wise and strong in the force!!
Jedi Master: Yes and some day you will be as strong as me! Now I must go stop an Imperial plot!!
Jedi Master: Ahh twin suns and sand... reminds me of my personality... boring and repetitive like the dunes them selves.. Hmmm Whats happening here?!?! **** A JAWA!!! SAVE ME ASPIRING JEDI I AM A MASTER OF THE FORCE AND 2 JAWA's PWNED ME!!!!
Aspiring Jedi: Some day some Jedi will show up in all black with an attitude, robotic hand and a lightsaber that doesn't look like a tonka toy and save our shattered reputation in this galaxy... He will start out a bit of a cry baby, but by the end he will actually have a pair. The Force has shown me this....

I think that is what many are frustrated about.
this is exactly what TOR needs...leveling in WoW has way more freedom of choice, and thus is alot more fun.

I think their aim was to bring BioWare feel to SWTOR for BioWare/KOTOR fans, while also providing an MMO experience. To that extent there was a synergy between BioWare and BioWare Austin. Don't forget that BioWare Austin was essentially a startup offshoot of BioWare. Many of the SWG developers who've had lots of experience with MMOs were hired to work on SWTOR, as well as a lot of new talent (along with Mythic devs). We're not looking at BioWare's SPRPG crew trying to make an MMO here...by and large they were MMO designers/developers.

Now granted many of the decisions were likely made higher up, but who can say which decisions were made where.
Good will always triumph because Evil is lazy.

I am a casual player. It took me a while to get my BH Merc healer to 50. Then it took longer still to get to Valor 60 an BM gear for PvP and still longer to get full Rakata gear for PvE. That being said, the journey up to level 50 was fun. The journey after has been frankly a stupid grind. Even simple FPS multi player games have a dozen war maps which are often larger and more complicated than anything in SW:TOR.

I have 3 Imperial alts and 1 Republic alt. Part of the reason I have not played any of them past level 20, is knowing getting to 50 isn't even half the journey to having a competitive PvE or PvP build, so I have to admit what is required is beyond the amount of time I can invest in the game.

If BioWare didn't have such an e-peen for credit sinks, time sinks, travel sinks, screwy economy metrics, binding items to a character instead of to the legacy, I might have a different attitude. However, the whole psychology of the game is a grind and once the initial lore wears thin, you are left with doing WORK rather than PLAY.

I don't know what BioWare could possibly do make the game fun again and I really do wish there was something that would make it all fun again.
