itschowda
With a list of new games coming out in the near future, (one in particular: Diablo 3 being available for play as soon as we're on maintenance time) the thread title is the discussion at hand. What will keep you playing SWTOR after all these new guys come out? Post up a rating (out of 10) on how important the change is to you with a short comment on why. Let's please keep it intelligent and civil and hope that it catches the eyes of the development team. Here's a short form that I'm going to use. Copy, paste, and edit as needed to create a reply: A bit about myself I play for: 90% PVP, 5% PVE, 5% story Server: Black Vulkars Server population: Light Rough average of players on my fleet during my peak play time: 70-100 Changes I'd like to see: (8-player wz queue or cross server PVP: 9/10) Queue times on my server are usually horrible and it gets worse when I wait a long time for a queue just to get teamed up with players that don't know what they're doing or just don't care and we lose because of it. (Server merges or character/legacy transfers: 10/10) Plain and simple. People want to play with other people, tons of "Light" population servers are not good when there can be a handful of "Heavy" or even "Full" population servers. Wz queue times are shorter, in-game economy is better, more people are available for Flashpoints/Operations, need I say more? (New content in 1.3: 5/10) New content is usually good, just not when there are other issues hindering a game's progress and a player's willingness to play. (Events similar to the Rakghoul event: 3/10) Events can be fun but for the most part but in the game's current state, they're more of a distraction. The Rakghoul event is a good example, many of my old guild mates quit when they were feeling bored with the game and were planning on coming back in 1.2 mainly for the Rated wz system. They re-subscribed and patched up only to find that there were no rated queues and found an event going on as a consolation prize. (Misc. small bug fixes: 8/10) A huge bug usually isn't a problem because usually it's immediately attended to. A small bug usually isn't a problem because it's small, but when the number of small bugs pile up it becomes a large swarm of a problem. Whenever there's a patch and I'm at my local LAN center, the common saying for SWTOR is "fix one thing, break two more." It's a messed up thing to say about the development team but sometimes it's true. Take the matrix cube bug, a lot of us lost the use of our matrix cube for two days because the development team made a change that may not have even been necessary. Keep in mind two days isn't very long but it's the principle behind why we lost it that's important. There's more changes I'd like to see to make me keep paying my subscription, but they're not coming to mind presently which means they're probably not all that important and these are probably enough to digest for now. theskurGe
This game was marketed almsot entirely as a story driven PVE experience, so this game was a weird choice considering you like 90% PvP. That being said, I will stay IF server populations become more healthy, and because there is a lack of Star Wars MMOs on the market.

I am in for the long haul, but the mentoring system is very important to me and will add a lot of fun to my game.
Gungan
Server merge with LFG tool (x-server preferably). Dual specs wouldn't hurt. Flashpoints need to be seriously improved. There is a severe lack of cool boss fights in this game. The flashpoints also need to stop being stories in a vacuum and actually start relating to the actual game world. They need to make the class stories interweave between classes to produce branching storylines. Edited May 15, 2012 by Gungan

Bradyw
If they quit watering the game down for little babies. this game is not any different than any other mmo and is becoming an epic fail. every mmo that caters to cry babies fails look at SWG go ahead go down that road. Biowares programers are suppose to be artist. I dont think Vincent Van Gogh would say o they dont like this painting let me change this around, and for the love of god quit thinking inside the box of how much money can we take from them customers. Make a master piece for goodness sakes and take some risks, and the money will come. The next big MMO will be the company that has a great idea and is willing to stick to it and take some risk. Ive pretty much given up on this game i think the only reason this game is still going and im still playing is the fact that it is star wars. SWG had it right in the beginning and freaked out over WOW so they watered it down and it died. Look at eve very complicated to play and is very popular despite its age. look at UO same thing. we need a gaming company with BALLS! for crying out loud make a perma death game where the goal is to see how long you can live. that will fix the crafting and auction house alone. stop being so affraid of the community and make some quality work. at the worst it would teach these little kids (crybabies) that life is not fair pick up the pieces and move on and you would also have a reason to keep coming back
Riven
I play for: FUN Server: Basilisk Droid Server population: Light Rough average of players on my fleet during my peak play time: 40-50 (Rep) Changes I'd like to see: 10/10 - Server mergers! There simply not enough players (active) on most servers to enjoy the available content. 9/10 - RvR open world PvP. Personaly I don't enjoy Warzone/Arena type PvP. Never have and never will. I want something to fight over, to conquer. Something that isn't static and repetitive. 8/10 - Get rid of the stupid gear grind (PvE and PvP) There are way better methods of character progression than this outdated crap. I had high hopes for your legacy system in this regard, but so far it's just useless fluff. 7/10 - Get the freaking community tools in game. Improve the GTM, improve the guild features, DON'T screw up the LFG tool. All of this should have been in the game from the beginning or at least should have been added within the first two months. It's not like I'm asking for or expecting stuff that isn't pretty much standard for every MMO for the past 10 years or so, or like this is coming as a surprise. People asked for all of this (except mergers since everybody wanted the game to succeed) for as long as I have been here, which is day one of the forums. Gerandar
The only thing that will make me keep playing is they fix the server population, add cross-server LFG/Warzones. until then Diablo 3 > SWTOR
dronepilot
play for: FUN Server: Chuundar Server population: Light average of players on fleet during peak time: 30-40 (Rep) Play PVP 95% of the time, 5% PVE Dailies. Rly need server merges, everyone is leaving our server, because of the long WZ queues, its taking up to an hour to get one match now. Some times nothing for much longer. I will continue to play, and check in with the guild I am part of, but we needed cross server queues like a month ago. bootsakah
What will keep me playing: 1. a cross server group finder, that works just like the one used in Wow. I have leveled up 4 toons to 50, and unless everyone from my guild is logged on (which they mostly arent as they are bored too), then there is no way I can get a group. A group finder should have been in there at release. For all the "hardcore, its going to ruin the community types" they can simply choose not to use the group finder. 2. Dual spec. In short, a dual or multi spec allows me to just play one or two toons. Try out new roles, be more versitle for raids and groups (of course there are no more groups because no one is playing and no group finder). 3. FIX THE DAMN BUGS. Ever since 1.2 nearly everyone in my guild, will lose their sound after 1 or 2 hours of play. This was a bug that tons of people have posted on the forums and the devs have not even acknowledged it, let alone fix it. 4. Stop nerfing the classes just to balance PVP. They clearly had one of each classes skill sets in mind for pvp., develop it a lot more so that its advantageous to use the "PVP spec", let people use that spec for free when going into warzones/etc. My class, commando, still doesnt have an interrupt for PVE content because the devs say it would be overpowered, my only guess is PVP balancing. Im only playing now because I have some great people I have met to run Ops with. 1.3 better be amazing and fix all the issues they created and still havent fixed since 1.2 or its walk away time. Diablo 3 is really going to kill SWTOR log ins.

The goal of any MMO producer is to make the game attractive to every type of player. The ones that are the most successful create something for everyone but most importantly they create a sense of community. The current tools in SWTOR make it hard to form a community as it works to separate players not bring them together. Is it any surprise once people are done with the single player game they leave? That's what happens in single player games.
itschowda
So it seems that the most common thing people really crave is SERVER MERGES or some way of getting/maintaining a better community. What seems to be trending on my server is people rolling Republic characters on "Fat Man's" server. Not sure which server that is but apparently he's notorious enough that people call it his server, not even by it's real name. Hopefully the developers understand the importance of players and community. To put things into perspective for them: People on my server are willing to leave everything behind, crew skills, legacy, character levels/gear/credits, etc. to join (and by join I mean completely start over) a server that has 10 second to 1 minute PVP queue times at any given time and probably PVE isn't hard on that server either due to the fact that there are so many people on it. GalacticKegger
Nothing will make me do anything - not even the business end of a gun barrel. itschowda
9/10 - RvR open world PvP. Personaly I don't enjoy Warzone/Arena type PvP. Never have and never will. I want something to fight over, to conquer. Something that isn't static and repetitive. I completely agree. They tried and failed with Ilum, it had a decent idea but lacked followthrough. If there were a couple of flashpoints or even operations that were only available when your faction controlled the planet that would make the game insanely fun. PVE players would have to learn how to PVP and PVP players probably wouldn't have any interest in the planet other than the fact that they can gank each other all day. A problem with that though is the balance of population between factions but that can somehow be fixed with a buff similar to the 10-49 wz buff. Even play times can be ok with that if the planet can change hands every 4-6 hours or so.

I like the improvements they make also, the ones that work anyways. The problem is that there are people without much patience who aren't willing to wait 1-2 months for improvements that will make them stay instead of playing other "hot" games like Diablo 3. I'll be honest and quote myself when people ask me if I'm going to play Diablo 3. SWTOR dailies will be done, then D3 time, then see how both games go over time. If all of my friends move over to another game, I go too because I hate playing games by myself.
mikphobos
only thing that will make me keep playing is they fix the population issues.. server merges, transfers, W/e please just do it, and do it now, for god sake we are in beg mode, BW dont you see it? come on say something, do something, the free months is over, we was hoping something will happen by now.. at least some real update and chat about it. Ryath-Darsis
Fix server population... you dont need LFG tool if you play in a server WITH PEOPLE ON IT Not totally true, on Ebon Hawk tonight it listed about a 90 level 50's online but only about 30 of them were one the station at the time I was looking for a group. Without any kind of LFG tool only those 30 people would see any kind of message about looking for a hard mode. If we had a LFG tool people would not have to hang out on the station just to spend a few hours trying to find a group, they could play other parts of the game as they waited. I think at this stage a LFG tool is really needed on every server to give everyone a chance to get into groups to see all this games great content. haliy
I used to be a hardcore gamer where I was one of the ones that had to see the engame and have every single peice of gear BIS. To take down every boss in every raid having server first title. Getting away from that was probably the best move I could have done for myself because now i can play without having to worry about every little detail of every thing. Now I can play without having to worry if they will nerf my class in the next weeks patch. I play just to play. I play to be social I play to help others What will make me keep playing? Unless they take the game off the market, I still plan on playing for quite some time.

I don't pay much attention to hype, and definitely don't follow the herd to the next thing advertising itself as the end game of all end games. I was playing video games in arcades before they ever came out on consoles. BTDT so I'm one of those who understands what "working on it" means. Which is why I'm still here. The game continues to be fun and the new UI (plus pulling the ranked WZs - unfortunately) in 1.2 told me Bioware was serious about getting it right. Lol. Do a search for servers on the US side of things and sort by population. The server name Fatman will be at the top 95+% of the time. And the lack of server merges/transfers is one of the main things that is killing this game currently. While some don't mind starting over on a new server, others are not so willing. 2 hours to D3. Qoojo
Nothing at this point. The game has run its course for me. Fun game. I'm just burnt out and had my fill of it. Put more hours into it than any game in many years for me. I have a sub till Aug, but not really planning on playing much again. Got an Imp to level 50, and Rep to 44, and the interest just isn't there any more.

Unless they take the game off the market, I still plan on playing for quite some time. I agree...but: Play just to play, I think most everyone does that. Play to be social, somewhat hard with low populations right? Play to help others, see above. The game will go off the market soon if people keep leaving for other games because they're slowly getting lonely on this one. I think BW doesn't really want to merge servers because that's he first sign that a game is dying and they don't want to give up or admit it just yet.
