That is the only reason they gave it in the first place, to inflate the sub numbers to present to their overlords next time

You must have abysmally low standards if you think the MMO mechanics of this game are satisfactory. Tell me, would you be playing this game as it is now, if they suddenly lost the Star Wars license and had to take out all references to Star Wars and all the story content?

If this game was nothing but stripped down to the game mechanics.. would it be worth paying $15 a month for?

This game rides on its license for all its worth.

My theory is that many of that 1.1 million are really FPS players who played it for a few weeks, decided they beat the game and then tossed it aside. I remember see a lot of posts like that in the forum in January.
So... if you never subscribe you arent counted?

Doesnt that still mean you LOST subs?

Thats some (to quote Bush) damn fuzzy math there...

Corporations play smoke and mirror games when it comes to quarterly Reports.

Here what they did was put in the free month sub so they could cover the first quarterly report and make the numbers look better than they actually are. If they went with actual active players that actually log into the game and play, you would see that that number is far lower than 1.3 mil.

Smoke and Mirrors, limit the damage of a failed strategy of copying WoW when they should have built a game that challenged their player-base while offering next generation game play.

the 2nd and 3rd quarter results will be quite telling if they don't find a way to smoke and mirror their way out again tbh.

What do you mean? It is common to talk about the past, present and the future when it comes to investor conferences and quarterly reports. In this case they talked about the current sub numbers, not the sub number that were there at the end of March, but more current then that.

But anyways, its right there, in black and white, the 1.3 million comes from the end of April.
How do you measure the success of an MMO?

Yeah, this kind of response wasn't predictable.

Your signature also cherry picks the information. Because maybe you overlooked what I am about to have bolded from that same statement in the same paragraph that goes along with what I just said.

"Through the end of the quarter, approximately 2.4 million units have sold through. In our last
call we indicated that we had 1.7 million active subscribers, and as of the end of April we now
have 1.3 million, with a substantial portion of the decrease due to casual and trial players
cycling out of the subscriber base, driving up the overall percentage of paying subscribers.

Unless you're a stockholder, a Bioware employee, or employee of a rival company... if you're on forums and going out of your way to attack or defend a videogame then I would say you're spending way too much energy doing so and not enough energy trying to figure out what in the world is wrong with you.

It's called "smudging", not fudging. All companies smudge their numbers some. There are finely developed practices of nudging right up to the legal limits of SOX and not crossing it. There was before SOX as well. It's what companies do, even non publicly traded companies.
