And I'm fine with that too. Part of the hype build up to SW:TOR was players would make decisions while playing their characters that would have consequences how the game unfolded. The more you allow people to swap out the choices at a later date, the fewer actual consequences there are.

With leveling being fairly easy in this game I'm leveling one of each AC on Empire side. And my Jugg is being leveled as a tank spec and my sorcerer as a healer. The other 6 are a dps spec. I have zero problem with no re-specs being given. Heck, if I was more into the PvP side of the game, I would designate one or two of the 6 dps characters to have a PvP spec. It's not like it would greatly impact leveling efficiency and I'll have others to do OPs with.

The problem is we get people that want their cake and eat it too. They want to focus solely on a single character and at the same time, be able to do everything with that character. The amount of time people spend complaining about the lack of the ability to switch AC plus, if BW ever caves on it, the amount of time to code, test and implement, those lobbying for it could have raised at least one if not multiple characters to fill those other roles.

There is a way to do this.

  1. Go to your character select screen and choose the character you want to change to the new archetype.
  2. Click the Delete button.
  3. Create a new character.
  4. Don't screw it up by choosing the wrong archetype at level 10 when you go to your fleet station.
  5. Voila!

They might as well let you pick an advanced class at the character creation screen to stop the QQ.

BTW, OP, you sir, need to realize this is something that cannot be done. What you are essentially asking for is the ability to not play the game.

Just play it - it's fun.

Get over it and move on.

No thank you.

Just add more character slots. Do not allow AC changes.

In the final analysis anything could be called a semantics argument. The simple and obvious fact of the matter is that the thing which, in this game, is called an "advanced class" represents the exact same type of choices as what is called simply your "class" in any other game with distinct classes. You can never change your class. It tells you in absolutely no uncertain terms that your AC choice is permanent and that essentially, you are now choosing your CLASS. What you are looking for is a game like the secret world, where there are no distinct classes.

Yes BW has stated that they want you to experience all of the different stories and classes. When you get right down to it, though , what they really want is for you to keep paying them. Now who do you suppose will pay them longer? Someone who must actually do the work and LEVEL each CLASS they want to try at 50, or the person who can just swap around and change AC at 50? I'll give you a hint: it's the first one. By years.

It will never cease to amaze me how immediately and completely people on these boards lose sight of the fact that BW is a business, and they will do whatever is in their financial best interests to do. In fact, they are legally obligated to increase shareholder value. So, will AC swapping make them more money in the long run? Almost certainly not, and therefore you will never see it. Another one is cross server lfg, which will allow people who are too busy to log in the means to find a group fast and enjoy the game, rather than cancelling a game subscription they can make no use of. It WILL happen, period.

When you pull your head out of the fantasyland wherein bioware actually cares about their customer and return to the reality in which they only care about profit, things become markedly clearer. So... every time you join a discussion on these boards, first think: Which side of this argument is most likely to increase EA and Biowares shareholder value? Whichever one it is is going to be the right one. Nostrafrickindamus. See if I am wrong.

I don't think you should be able to change your advance class. The game is pretty easy to level (even for casual). Even the mission and choices states THIS IS PERMANENT.

Then allow people to skip the first ten levels, start at level 10 and choose their AC. I would much rather have a naked, poor level 10 with lvl 1 gear than having to go through the entire first 10 levels again and again. At least in some other MMO's your race dictated what area you started in. Since there are only 2 starting areas per faction, we are forced to do the tutorial planet every single time you make a new character (that equates to 4 tutorial run throughs for all 4 AC's per starting planet).
If I could pick a new race, and play in a different area then I would not complain at all!! But since BW has placed 4 character classes(well...4 AC's but 2 starting classes) within the same starting area, it REALLY gets boring. I don't mind re-doing the quests post tutorial planet, but please give us "something" to either bypass lvl's 1-10, or give us an option to change AC's around lvl 15. Hell....I wouldn't mind if at lvl 15 if you chose to change your AC, but due to story restrictions, you lost 5 levels and started back at lvl 10.
I don't mind playing the game or putting in time. I am just extremely sick of the tutorial planets. I know how to play the game. I don't need or want a tutorial planet anymore!! Wish there was more variety. By the way....this absolutely NOT a QQ, or meant as a troll incitement.

you don't mind putting in the time but you can't put in the 2 hours required to get to lvl 10?

Many things are in fact semantic arguments, largely because we as a species insist on placing barriers for no reason other than "It is what it is." Sometimes it makes sense to re-evaulate, and when there's no tangible downside. I believe the ability to swap AC is...in a game where you can change specs and roles within a given AC. Just to be clear, I do not think bioware HAS to change it, but I do feel it's a good idea.

*snip* Buisness talk *snip*
I agree with you 100%. SWTOR exists to make money...now the question becomes, what strategy is most profitable?

A game where you extend the subscriptions of a few people, by making them play through the same leveling content a maximum of 8 times per faction. Or expanding your subscriber base by minimizing grind and allowing people with limited amounts of time as much access to your content as possible?

I don't know the answer to this, I haven't run the numbers...and I'm going to assume neither have you. But given the trajectory of the MMO industry is aimed towards a free to play model, I'd say the latter is more likely.
