Fed Up With Weekly Downtimes

4, 6 and 8 hour downtimes are unacceptable in 2012. All of the apologist fanboys are wrong*. It should not take that long to reboot the servers to a new build.

The downtimes don't bother me anymore as I haven't been playing in weeks. I've got 24 days left on my sub, but I doubt very much if I'll use that time. I loved Tera this last weekend and have been enjoying Rift 1.8 very much. GW2 beta comes this week and Secret World beta is little more than 3 weeks away.

Don't bother flaming me with, "Good riddance, buh-bye." It doesn't phase me.

*Comparisons to WoW are correct from a graphics standpoint. SWTOR looks like it was designed on an XP machine back in 2004. It's visually atrocious.

Ya, I need to get a life.
So what you are saying is you can't play the game once a week late on Monday nights? Given your eventful and busy life, I'm sure you can find something to fill that time with.

I do agree that the European timezone folks have a valid complaint, but I come from a generation for whom daily maintenance was a standard, so I'm mostly inclined to dismiss you all as a bunch of whiners. [caneshake] Get off my lawn! [/caneshake]

Lol... Close this thread. Seriously. We already have a sticky explaining what maintenance is and does and why we have them.

Go read the offical post.

It won't, though it may be that their maintenance schedule will happily not fall on one of your game nights.

And if you find GW2 just as, or more fun than SWTOR, that may be your best bet.

Best of luck to you in any case. I can sympathize with wanting to play, but not being able, whatever the reason.

I played EVE for years, and loved this downtime schedule. An hour is no sweat. I've been browsing these forums for an hour. If this were EVE, I'd almost be ready to log back in by now.

4 hours is dumb.

And defending a 4 hour downtime by citing all the other games that have 4 hour downtimes only shows that all those other games' downtimes are also dumb.

I'll save everyone the trouble, I've been playing MMO's for 15 years and HAVE learned to deal with it. But they're still dumb.

No, me saying that doesn't accomplish anything, but it sure makes me feel better.

Comparing MMORPG maintenance times with classic multiple-server infrastructure setups to EVE's maintenance with their setup is nearly impossible. EVE uses an entirely different setup which is much simpler in some ways.
I am in no way affiliated with BioWare. I am simply a Star Wars: The Old Republic player.

Didn't SWG go down almost every single night?

Seriously, you will never find a good MMO that doesn't have weekly (maybe even daily) down times.
I suppose getting a lyrium tattoo of breasts on my chest would make things better...

Most people on these forums don't want to read explanations, they just want to vent.

how is that possible if all the servers can be played at any time from any location in the world.. Think about it dude. And as for WoW. My brother has been playing every day since it first started and it always has had and still has weekly maintenance. If your sick of it go to D2 or Mass effect or something you dont need to annoy other people with your annoying whines.
