How are you using the Rakghoul Plague event in your RP (if at all)?

A lot of chatter and cure-searching has been going on on Vrook Lamar. The Galactic Chronicle has already published an article on it's origins, and the public comm channel has been kind of high-strung with a number of peoples' different reactions to the plague. Kind of wish we got some forewarning, so that we could have had time to plan a legitimate event for the server...

Our guild is looking at this as a possible Imperial plot, though we are open to the possibility that it may be a Lemony Snicket situation (as in, a series of unfortunate events). We have our lowbie players on Ord Mantel looking into what happened to the ship and/or passengers just prior to the ship departing for Tatooine. Our troopers who are on Tatooine are drafted by the local Containment Troopers into helping contain the outbreak to the Sand People enclaves, although many of us are concerned that the plague seems to be able to jump species with little to no difficulties. Our characters on Taris have been hearing rumours of an Imperial weapons expert successfully weaponising the rakghoul plague, but the rumours are contradictory as to whether a Republic specops group was able to stop them. Some say there never was a weapons expert, some say the Republic didn't send anyone to stop them, some have even said that they met the specops team and say they were there to stop a rogue Republic specops team and had nothing whatsoever to do with any weaponised rakghoul plauge.

Our Jedi characters, meanwhile, are on Voss consulting with the Mystics to see if they have any insight on the outbreak. So far, we're having a hard time understanding just what the hell the Mystics are saying. One of our Jedi Sage characters has been formally disciplined by the guild's leadership for willingly allowing himself to be infected by the plague so that he has a unique perspective on how the plague affects patients at various stages.

And we're all concerned by the paranoia the Containment Troopers are displaying in the ports. More than one of us has been fired on now by the Containment Troopers because we sneezed, or had a sniffle, or were sweating and so were assumed to have contracted the plague. We're hoping that cooler heads will prevail, but if the plague isn't contained soon, there could be a terrible accident from an overzealous Trooper, and the resulting backlash could cause the Containment Troops to be pulled back by politicians, leading to a greater chance of the outbreak escaping from Tatooine and onto other worlds.

And the fact that the Imperials are also combatting the plague on Tatooine is in no way an indication of the innocence of the Imperials. The Sith aren't above throwing Imperial lives away at a whim if they think a slight advantage can be gained, and it doesn't discount the possibility of a rogue faction of Sith weaponising the plague and unleashing it without the Dark Council's knowledge or permission.

So far, we haven't been able to determine one way or the other if this was a horrible accident, or an act of terrorism.

The 382nd in Lord Adraas was ordered to move in to assist the containment unit in irradicating the Rakghouls as well as investigate the wreckage to establish the exact cause of the crash. Also thought about setting up a checkpoint at the entrance of the starport and the base in the dune seas, but people kept running past, so dang :P.
