Uh because in order to do PvsP you need the internet to connect players to each other? To where PvsE can be done offline in a multitude of gaming genres?

In terms of MMOs, PvE vastly outstrips PvP in terms of size.
PvP players are just an extremely vocal, though small subset of the MMO audience.

I like how people seem to know that GW2 and D3 will kill this game. GW2 with its already out of date gameplay and D3 which will NEVER live upto the hype. Also with Activision now on board im sure they will ruin it like everything they seem to touch.

Also im gonna go to the GW2 and D3 forums on release and just see how many people are moaning and complaining about content thats missing and the bugs etc.

I bet there will be as much bashing of these games as there is for this one.

This will probally not be read since its way back.

You do realize that a substantial amount of Blizzards subs come from Asian countries. I believe they have about 3 million North American Europe and Australia subs the rest are from Eurasian areas.

So SWTOR having close to 2 millions subs is not that far behind which is impressive in a game that is 4 months old.

Blizzard took 8 years to reach the amount of subscriptions they have.

GW2 and D3 will take Blizzard customers for the most part there will be people who jump to new games that leave but the majority like the space feel and star wars genre so those games wont take that group which is the people who will be playing 7 years from now.
What we really need is a driod that understand the binary language of moisture evaporators.

.
How is GW2's gameplay already outdated? I haven't seen that type of gameplay in any other type of MMO.

I stupidly believed this would be, as advertised, a story driven game that was “KOTOR 3 through 10” and BW would keep to their guns. Instead, it’s going the route of patches going the route of PVP and raiders.

Should… have… known.

“MMO” trumps “story driven”. Cuz us RPers that wanted KOTOR-3, we’re kiddies apparently, and I wish I knew then what I know now. New FPs. New OP. New Dailies. I don’t know what Legacy is, but it sure isn’t chapter 4.

Well, that’s that. I have learned one thing, though… if a game says “MMO” anywhere it’s title, “MMO” trumps all, so, since I’m not the target market, I don’t care if the next “Story driven MMO” is about Highlander (my personal favourite franchise), if it says “MMO”, I won’t be here, because, for me, I’m sick… and tired… of PVP and raids… creeping up and taking over a genre.

Should have gone with my gut, seen “MMO” and ran for the hills. But, I got suckered in by the advertisement and videos promising KOTOR-3 to 10. My fault for forgetting it was EA…

Maybe if a development company ever gets the balls to call something a SPOG (Single Player Online Game), and verbatim says “It’s online to stop piracy. We will NEVER put in PVP. We will NEVER put in raids. We’re aiming to be a niche game targeted at story people”.

Maybe I’ll give it a try… maybe.

Either way, though, BW is getting it both ways…

…from PVP / Raiders as per many board posts about the unsatisfying content, and lack of updates about the same in 1.1… 1.2… etc…

…and now, at least for me, getting it from RP “kiddies” (hey, I’m 45, but I qualify apparently according to the quoted part) and Story people because all we see on 1.1 1.2 updates, and patches… is more… damn… PVP and raid balancing / features…. sigh.

Sidebar = As above, I don’t know what Legacy is. PVP / Raiders can say it doesn’t help them. Well, it’s no chapter 4+, so it’s helping us RP / Story people either…
You sir, need to calm down. From what I've read here you are not familiar with MMOs, but chapter 4, what you are asking for- It's called an expansion. The patched we've had are common and add to end game as well as addressing balancing issues, that CAN be done once every few months. An expansion adds to the story, gives you new worlds and abilities to explore, usually adds in 5 - 10 levels and in swtor's case likely a companion or two etc etc etc. An expansion is purchased and it certainly won't be released within 4 months of launch. You'll be waiting at least a year, so slow down your affection farming or get married and divorced a few times

Oh and Legacy, is swtor encouraging players to play all the class stories, meet all the companions and generally get some rp, social fun times goin... along with, you know, exploring the whole big mmo thingy they've been slaving over.

Diablo 3 is not an MMO, it will not kill this game.
GW2 might, but it could suffer from the 'Next Big MMO' syndrome and end up being a huge letdown.

No point on hyping another bandwagon. Those people that jump into threads spouting this nonsense say the exact same about every new game release.

This game also lost a lot of active players, but retained a lot of pre-paid subs. We will find out after the six month subs run out how healthy SWTOR is.
It all comes down to engine optimization and whether or not they have server merges.
No-one is going to sub to this game if there are only 3 or 4 active servers per continent/zone.

I rerolled on the highest pop server in Europe few days ago and I have to say, its gonna keep me playing. I originally went from a server which at release had 30 min queues to standing in Ilum on a evening and there being maybe 4-5 people there. Given up all my legacy levels and everything now but its been well worth it.

I'd forgotten what it was like to hear the sound of combat in the background as I talked to a quest giver. Or seen an active general chat which sensible people, normal people and down right crazy people all having some banter.

Re-roll for the win!! If you think the game is dead, just screw the server your on and choose one of the few high pop ones there are

Could not agree more. Guild Wars 2 is getting too much hype, peoples expectations could end up just being too high. Not saying it will kill SWTOR or any other MMO for that matter, but it has the potential to become a great game.
