The games industry is a lot different than it was when WoW first launched. Computer games today are initially priced at $60 instead of the $40-50 like happened back then. As I recall I bought my copy of WoW for $50 and the expansions for $40. Also, keep in mind that most of the console titles that sold for $60 during the Christmas holiday can be found on sale for $40-50 these days so Bioware isn't doing anything that the rest of the industry does to maximize revenue.

The other thing you are ignoring is 1.2 is essentially a relaunch of the game. Giving a bunch of free trials during the last month, then dropping the price is a good way to get new subscribers. The developers are well aware they released an incomplete game and this is their last chance to get a solid player base so the price drop makes sense.

In the long run the real money for MMOs is in monthly subscriptions and if Bioware drops that price and adds micro transactions then your complaint might have merit.

People say EA are greedy and rob us, when they give people a good deal they say they are desperate?

1.2 should focused more on fixing forum stupids.

It's an indirect marketing approach. Most games lower the price of their product when they are making a major change. Since it symbolizes a new product they will most likely sell 3x as much as a they would with the game at full price. Most games usually fall in price around the 2nd-3rd quarter after release once they have reached their start up goal. Now that they have entered the market and they will try to concentrate on new purchases and retention of current customers. I am confident Bioware and LA are doing great.

Not fanboy, troll. Simple facts. If everquest had 10 million and warcraft only had 1 mill, I'd have said Everquest. I was simply correcting the OPs misinformation.

I was one of the ones hoping SWTOR would do well but it really isnt doing well at all. I can go hours on my server and not see another soul.

Fanboism should have a limit.
The permanent price drop so soon is quite a desperate sign. Hadn´t expected that within the first 6 months, a weekend sale perhaps..

But you giving your truthful and honest opinion about your experience inflames the fanbois.

Anything for a hand-hold to grasp on to in your quest to bash the game, eh kids?

It's called a business model. When you've already sold all (or most of) the copies you can at $60 on a product with a built-in $15/mo subscription fee, why not drop the price $20 on the initial purchase if you believe you can get at least one extra month subscription out of them in the long run, especially if that means swelling the ranks of your player base and further maximizing the revenues from subscriptions?

There are consumers out there who are frugal, you know, who won't buy at $60 but will at $40, even if the subscription price is the same afterwards...

Again, this is the price early adopters pay. If this is your first game purchase, and you wished you'd have waited so you could pay less, maybe this is a great learning opportunity.

BTW, this is also how the tech market works in many instances. Products will hit the market with a hugely inflated price, then once the initial glut of purchases is complete, they will begin lowering the price to target the other market demographics that won't buy at the higher prices, but will buy at the lower ones. It's just a given that if you're first in line, you'll pay a little (or a lot) more.

True. Seems like they are heading for a "one server per player" concept. If the bunch of people I see on fleet leave, I have one for myself. Add some FTP services, an e-mail address and web storage and you´re really getting something out of your sub.

The most painful part of that link? There are a lot of mediums and quite a few highs.

Compare it to: http://www.swtor.com/server-status 1 Heavy. 1! And a handful of standards. My server is still listed as light.
