Okay so I got a new machine today and have downloaded the SWTOR.exe file from the link (http://www.swtor.com/download). Once I installed it and logged into, it started the download, that was about 3 hours ago. I am a high speed Connection (Speedtest.net Results in Atlanta) and better results to Austin (Speedtest.net Results).

So I am curious why is it taking so long and would I have been better to use the CD's with the box set to start the install?

Taken from the FAQ page. I would think it will take a very long time even with a fast connection.

How long does it take to download the Game Client?
Your download time will vary according to the speed of your internet service provider. Download speeds are not constant and vary by location. The size of the final Game Client is approximately 27GB when fully installed. You should ensure you have adequate free space on your hard disk before completing your download.

Kind of funny since they claim you only need 20GB of Free space on your HD.

Greetings Yaesive,

I advise installing from the disks you have and then when the game is installed it will patch itself but the patch will be of significantly smaller size than the full client download. Please note that installing from the disks will still take some time so depending on your current progress with the download you may be better off to let the download finish.

Thank You for playing Star Wars: The Old Republic
