Eq - 6 years
WoW - 4 years
EQ 2 - 1 year
Lineage II - 1 year
DnD online - few months
Aion - few months
AoC - few months
LOTRO - few months

Far as I am concerned the game is very entertaining and has enough content as is. Sure they could use more progression of characters, but the game still is fresh and this big patch that is coming is similar to when they introduced the honor system to vanilla WoW.

But I mean was none of the players who use WoW as a reference playing in TM/SS days?
For months all you had was UBRS and world pvp to do. When Raids actually released, the servers would crash for 2 days and the instance wouldn't be available when it came back up.

EQ was a pve grindfest that basically put a reset button on your gear lvl every 6 months. Lineage had an amazing pvp system but their endgame blew and it is the same with Aion.

There are a ton of bugs in the game at the moment but at the same time in WoW's first year of release the servers would crash daily so once again bad example. EQ you would have times where you would be feared forever, disappear into a wall, randomly die with nothing attacking you, need i continue?

A major thing they could do in the future is to reward those doing 16man ops more. I am not a fan of gear progression in pvp due to the fact pvp should be based off skill instead of gear. Making too much progression puts fresh players (even when highly skilled) at too much of a disadvantage. Anyways thats just my 2 cents.

Swotor is a pretty big dissapointment especially in terms of class balance

i already see pvp guilds trying out wacked builds in preperation for 1.2 with nothing but sorc/sages, troopers/BHs and Sentinels/Maurauders

something pubs can do early in the morning because of faction imbalance on my server

facing a team full of sages and two jedi knights was fun

all of them run 3 healers and expertise will only make the discrepency between healing and dpsing bigger

I like the way my Jugg plays but it wont be enough to keep me going especially once 1.2 pvp rolls around

I should never win a 1v1 against a rage specced sentinel /maurauder come 1.2

I WILL try out Secret World but it will be MY last MMO

Feels like any semi-succesful gaming company (first Blizz now Bioware with a lazy production of DAII and now SWOTOR) is just out to make the quick buck now

No sense of accomplishment for creating a great game by gamers for gamers anymore

Played EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, DaoC, RYL, EVE, WoW, LOTRO, Rift.

SWTOR is by far the best levelling experience I've had so far. Nothing compares, well, except EQ1 but that was more due to you actually feared dying and the combat itself felt more engaging.

PVP is pretty much E-sports. Some players use this as an insult but I really enjoy the warzones, especially when you face other premades for tight and challenging games. Some complain about it is all about spamming CC and to those I say the immortal words, learn to play. People who mindlessly spam CC are the ones that fill up the resolve bar which lets the ballcarrier score. Very much looking forwards to face other PvP focused guilds in 1.2.
RvR can be fun if done right but in the end, for me, it becomes a chore. Ultimately you find yourself just going through the motions. Less is more, and by that I mean it is better to a have fewer steps because they do not become timeconsuming and more dynamic. I know some will disagree, just stating my preference. I do like the "mini-game"-PvP.

As for endgame, I prefer Rift. Had lots more fun tanking in this game and the soul system was a lot of fun when playing DPS. Granted the macro-system made for some silly 2 button-spamfests but they also paved the way for advanced and more effective builds for those who got into it.

This is why, for the reasons stated above, I'm very interested in The Secret World.

For now though, I'm content to see what 1.2 will bring us and how the changes will affect PvP.

This.

But, as modern MMOs go, this one isn't bad atm. It has issues; end game PvP needs more purpose, and they need to fix the bugs and do something about the cheaters.

Can sum this game up in two words. Too Late.

By the time they fix all the things that need fixing, D3 GW2 TSW Tera and MoP will all either be out or in open testing. There's too much MMO competition for the consumers dollar (and more importantly the consumers time) to release an unfinished product. SWTOR in its current state is unfinished.

Let's all be honest here, if this game didn't have the Star Wars IP behind it, most of you would not be playing. I know I wouldn't. It does have the Star Wars IP however, so this game cannot, and will not, fail. SWG was a pile of dog***** towards the end and people still played it simply because it was Star Wars.

The 1.2 patch is how the game should have released. If it meant pushing the release back, then so be it. By releasing early, the hype machine was a colossal letdown for a great deal of players, who have tried this "beta" version of the game and left. So instead of releasing a polished game to an unknowing consumer, they're now trying to win back a disappointed consumer. Much, MUCH harder to do.

You would think that EA would have learned not to release MMOs too early from their mistakes with WAR. WAR is actually a very good game at the moment, but you would never know since nobody plays it. They took too long to get the balance and polish just right. TOR is making the exact same mistakes, and I'm very surprised.

TOR is an excellent game for what it is attempting to accomplish; EA wanted a Star Wars game with mass market appeal that people coming from WoW would feel comfortable with.

I've been playing MMORPG's since before the term was coined by Richard Garriott

http://www.geekosystem.com/wp-conten...ORDBritish.jpg

And, I've played all of the western games, spending the most time in EQ and WoW but also loving the time I spent in Shadowbane and a few other niche games.

SWTOR is a massive letdown for me.

SWTOR is a decent (not great) single player game with a chatbox. All of the so called MMO features that SWTOR brings to the table have been done better by other games.

If this game didn't have the Star Wars lore, it would be dead.

Personally, I am online for one more month just to see how 1.2 works out. I do not have high hopes because this game will still be built on a laggy engine and there still won't be very many new fun things to do.

Every day that I log in, I see fewer and fewer people in my guild (which once had over 300 active players) and fewer people in fleet and longer queues for warzones and it's harder and harder to find groups.

SWTOR will live a long and modest life just on the IP alone but it is not a great MMO. There are much better games on the near horizon (GW2).

Played: A long list of games most notably - MUDs, MOOs, GSIII, Shadowbane, AC2, FFXI, L2, EQ2, WoW, LotRO, WAR, AoC
Opinion on SWTOR: I enjoy it more than I have any MMO in years. It is different and offers much to the genre moving forward. The forums of SWTOR however are possibly the worst I've experienced to date in an MMO. I would love to see guild support (particularly for PvP) and well considered PvP design for end game (territory control with benefits and penalties to start).

I started playing MMO's with M59 (the first MMO), I then played UO and eventually became the GM of the Baja server (pre-trammel) for a brief period (I dont work in gaming anymore so I speak only as a experienced player now). I then played EQ, DAOC, SWG, WOW.

Background and Principles....

I suppose you could say I am a hardcore player, PVP'er (my guild is one of the oldest PVP centric MMO guilds) min/maxer, etc.

I generally dont go into a game lightly, because I tend to stay for long periods, but I wont game alone, I love my guild and enjoy playing with them. It either has to have a) mechanics I enjoy (sandbox and crafing) b) good PVP c) Interesting RVR d) and Amazing IP that the company respects and executes on well e) well developed community to keep me hooked, it does not have to have ALL of these but a good mix is mostly required.

"I dont make MMO's anymore because I got tired of fighting over the same Pie" Raph Koster (paraphrased)

LOYALTY

This word, and this alone determines the longevity of an MMO. I have seen it as a player, I have seen it as a guild leader, I have seen it while providing customer service to players and I have seen it as the GM of a server, back in a game that still had customer service (in the game regularly...)

How and why you are loyal to something as a paying customer is often premised as much on your emotional investment as your economic and time investment.

I have stuck with games that have been entirely destroyed by a parent company for profit potential (SONY, EA I'm lookin' at you), to chase a bigger slice of the same MMO playerbase PIE (WOW grew the PIE substantially but also lowered the barrier to entry for end game as well as changed the dynamics and expectations of the player base (there are good and bad things about this).

AND Now my rant...... (for the devs)

"You should dance with the person that brought ya"

ELDER GAME

I saw a video of a BW dev talking about "the elder game" the elder game? really that's your concern? You don't even have an adolescent game here. You have a game where people hit cap in 3 weeks after launch, exploited mechanics, horribly messed up a patch allowing for more exploitation, failed to implement viable end game crafting, PVP class balance (and/or treated PVP as an afterthought), imbalanced servers, and a copied WZ mechanic with no community to speak of.

People will only dig your cut scenes and story lines so long.

Don't worry, no I get it, time and budget and resource constraints; somethings going to come up short. No game ships perfect. But a good game, a game with stickiness concentrates on the basics first before throwing more oatmeal at a wall hoping something sticks then calling it content.

Right now you are three months out, you got a pretty good slice of the Pie on release, and you made bubba Blizzard bleed. But you need to dance with the players you have. Please work on 1.2 until it is right, do not release it early, do not release it buggy and listen to your player base. (an impartial survey as launch screen comes to mind?).

I lOVE STAR WARS. I HAVE A RARE SW POSTER IN THE LIVING ROOM MY WIFE HATES

So trust me when I say I'm willing to put up with a lot for Star Wars.

But please work on a-e above. I know you need to meet your quarterly target metrics, but it starts with sustaining the player base you have, and that starts with developing loyalty with your players. Where, how and why we are invested is entirely up to you BioWare.
