GM/Dev Hosted Events in SWTOR?

I mean, you add a new server for the weekend where you can transfer your character (so that you don't disturb the level 10-15 on this planet), you change the way the map works, and you have republic vs empire fight for the entire planet!
You have checkpoints for both parties and multiple areas where fights occur.
(ex: space battle where a party invade and try to take control of enemy ship
ex: fight at the senate
ex: empire try to clear a landing zone
etc etc
)
and your faction is being notified for every win and losses! and the fight evolve around those win/losses.
Something that could look like Ilum but better because more people will participate and it will be epic!

I do hope that the definition of "time-limited" is that it can repeat at a later time, perhaps the same time next year.

A big problem I had with Rift was that some of the big events never repeated and had a window of only 30 minutes during busy work periods happening between Monday to Friday.

Will these include combat events or just things like holiday social events.

Thanks for the questions, everyone. I chatted with the events team and got a few more details for you.

We'd like it to be a surprise, so we probably won't announce it in advance. Heck, we've said too much already.

It won't just be a day, but we can't tell you the total length right now - mostly because it might be extended depending on popularity.

That's fair. Knowing our community, I fully expect every aspect of any event to be quickly dissected and the details spread far and wide very quickly. In fact, it'll probably be tougher just to avoid spoilers!

That said, we'll monitor the community reaction during the event and if it seems people are 'missing stuff' we'll try and ensure that the method of seeing (or getting) that 'stuff' is made clear(er) so people get their chance.

Also, right now our initial event does not feature any 'rare drops', so hopefully that'll ease any RNG pain.

I think you'll like our event plans then.

With that said, I want to manage people's expectations. The events team has been working on this event (and future events) but they're a small sub-team of the main development team. So I'm afraid to say...

... that is a bit outside of their scope.

We still think you'll have some fun. Roll on Game Update 1.2!

That is good to hear. My next biggest fear is for events to potentially turn out like in Champions Online - every 2 hours a boss spawned in specific zone, to get the interesting event loot you had to kill that boss (plus win the RNG, of course), and the game was heavily instanced, sharded or whatever you want to call it. It entirely consistet of hopping from instance to instance looking for one where the boss is up at the moment, rush like mad to the place and hope you'll get enough shots off at it to be eligible for some loot.

That's why I hope that if there will be event-specific bosses, that those will exclusively be placed in phases.
