Wait, getting "Sprint" at level 14 is a right of passage and a special achievement???

Back in WoW, warlocks would get a quest at level 40 to get their Dreadsteed mount. Paladins had a similar quest to get their mount. These quests were long, expensive, difficult, and required several people to help out. Blizzard, for whatever reasons, eventually made those mounts purchasable from a trainer, and then just got rid of the quests completely.

But I can definitely understand why completing those quest chains was considered a right of passage and a significant accomplishment. And I think people who completed their quests had a legitimate complaint about those mounts later just being available from a trainer.

But all you do for "Sprint" is reach a level and visit a trainer. Are you honestly saying that reaching level 14 and visiting a trainer is some sort of special accomplishment that can't possibly be compromised?

By this definition, every single ability you can learn from a trainer is some sort of special, magical experience. "Yes! I reached level Level 27 and learned Cryogenic Grenade Rank 2!!! What a milestone!"

I'm just shocked that people actually consider the ability to run faster to be some sort of magical achievement in game, and that people in a game that is only 3-4 months old feel like they're being ripped off because newer players will get it earlier than they did.

Exactly. This is why all this complaining about travel times in this game is DRIVING ME NUTS. This game has FAR less travel time than just about any MMO I have ever played, yet everyone is whining about Orbital Stations and "god the planets are so big!", it is completely ridiculous.

Maybe you guys don't really belong in MMOs...because large worlds and travel that is at least somewhat immersive and gives you a sense of scale are KEY to the game's ability to create a world that feels genuine and believable.

MMO players used to treasure this stuff...now all anyone wants to do is port around like some headless chicken on speed doing task a, task b etc. etc. it is completely stupid. I know society has conned a lot of you into thinking you have no value as a human being unless you constantly produce, but this is a game, chill out for a bit and enjoy the scenery.

OP, they made a number of changes in 1.2 to address some of the tedium of travel in game. Not that I thought travel in game was all that tedious compared to other MMOs, but making travel less tedious is always a good thing IMO.

This change primarily benefits the folks in the starter and 10-16 zones. And if ever there was a need for srpint, it's in the 10-16 zones right at the start, not when you are fairly well done with them. They are strung out zones that require a lot of foot travel.
I agree. In addition, having Sprint at level 1 will make a better impression on new players playing through the Trial, which doesn't let you get to level 14 to earn Sprint.

Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive.

I thought there was mention of improved sprint-like abilities (shorter faster ones I think it mentioned). I assume that was the reason to giving sprint sooner, cause if you get an improved sprint at level 14 (not sure, but that might be what it means), then what's so bad about having the basic available at the beginning?

No need to whine if you don't look at the big picture.

And I agree with the level 10 comment, start PvP with sprint so you are on more equal footing. Speed is important in PvP, at the very least it can make the difference.

Isn't it just easier to make the characters walk more quickly? If it's going to be a base skill at level 1, why not up the walk speed on everyone and get rid of sprint? It's like re-inventing the wheel lol

Getting sprint isn't something i've looked forward to, it's been more not having sprint is something i'd rather not look back on. Having sprint doesn't make anything easier, it just makes early level travelling less tedious and dull.

Sprint at level 1 is a good thing, if you don't like it then don't toggle it.

You're crazy man. I literally don't even feel like leveling new toons because of the slowness, and yes, i would love bikes at lvl 1 as well. It's not fun in anyway at all, dragging your feet around in a stagnant world.

Actually, it probably is not easier to do that. First of all, increasing the base run speed (without sprint) would affect combat, since currently Sprint cannot be used in combat. And mounts and some abilities increase speed by a percentage of the base speed, so all of that would need to be revisited as well.

Finally, some people find that certain datacrons are easier to get to if you turn sprint off.

No, no. They want it for themselves - which is why they're fine with having available for legacy. But they don't want newer players to have it available. New players should have to go through the same magical rite of passage that consists of going to your trainer at level 14 and buying an ability.

wow...we were asking for sprint to be moved to level 1 or 10 during beta....instead they moved it from level 15 to 14...

took them long enough to take a hint. now they just need to fix the rest of the problems with patch 1.2 and I just might regain some trust in the dev team.
