Same idea. To me, the heart of the problem is that when we sit all of our BBEG's in little electronic closets, the better to be slain in neat little orders...it encourages us, the players to see ourselves as split from the others.

The heck with that. Be evil. Crash that BBEG right next to Anchorhead and have them attack. Send a Republic hit team to shoot up the outside of an Imperial base where Empire PC's regularly go back and forth. Give us the ability to spawn events out in the world, not send us into our closets to run on the hamster wheels of loot.

This is a story-based game. Make the BBEG's part of that storytime.

Yea i agreed world events would be a great addition. Almost everything is instanced currently. But i could imagine the kind of lag. Effectively turning what would be a great event to a slideshow, not only to those participating the event, but even to those questing in that area or region.
Dont get me wrong im not against the idea, i think honestly think its great.

We could even have server-wide events AND more flashpoints.

WoW players will remember the opening of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj.

Hey, now. Let's not get greedy or anything.
"Sounds like you could use a soldier."

So what's the problem with taking the epiks you get from boss drops (yes those ugly pieces of ~cough~cough~) and put it in some orange gear that you find looking sweet keep your set bonuses and look how you want to look?

Barracudastr let me ask you this? Why does every game have to be an e-peen grindfest? I have no problem with it. When I used to do it I looked for games advertised as such. I used to play FFXI. Was fun while I was there and into that. I moved on. Just as you stated I'd say some people don't like to play like that.

I see a lot of I wish this game was SW:G2 or more like EvE Online or whatever whatever. The game was never advertised as such or designed to be that. So why must it change to something you want and not stay as something I want?
Its a hard problem to explain, i like the general idea of being able to put mods in orange items. I just think they are taking away gear progression (the only kind of progression for the end game , in this game) and going about it completely the wrong way. A much simpler solution to the problem would be to keep it like it is now where high end mods drop from raids but give the armoring mods that drop set bonus's so you could put it in orange gear. That would add to gear progression and it would actually make it more of a feat to get a full set of orange gear with mods in it. Maybe also make them available through commendations.

I just think that making epic items turn into a container for mods is a bad idea. It takes away from gear progression as suddenly there is no gear progression, you get your actual gear from low end content or maybe you craft it and you put mods from your epic items in. Suddenly there is not excitement in getting a new item because you arent even going to get to put it on your just going to pilfer the mods and put it in an item you already have.

I do agree the current end game gear is ugly, but if from the begining they actually had a wide selection of end game gear instead of just 4 sets (for pve, yes thats right 4 sets, tier gear which all pretty much looks the same but with better stats, then xenotech, exotech and energized thats it for end game PVE drops) if they had unique drops that werent part of sets this wouldnt be a problem to begin with.

The more I talk about it the more it feels like a mistake, they took another great idea and are planning on implementing it very poorly. They really could have added something to gear progression and added some "E-peen" to having a full set of orange items with top level mods by doing what I suggested above make mods drop from raids or through commendations that have set bonus's. Suddenly getting a full orange set becomes an actual feat and is something to be desired. Suddenly armoring drops with set bonus's become a rare unique item.

Im not saying make it extremely difficult to get a full orange set with high end mods, but they could have made it a form of gear progression instead of something the go along side the current terrible gear progression they currently have.

Samborino I still don't see the difference in gear progression if the mod themselves drop or the mods drop inside of the equipment. To me there isn't much difference. People will still be excited to get that new piece of gear even if they yank out the mods and put it into their favorite outfit. Actually I think they'll be more excited to do that instead of having to wear something they don't like. The "gear progression" comes from the improvement in your gear regardless of how it looks. Beside someone thought the gear looked good. Maybe not you or I but someone did.

Right now on my PvP toon I'm spending a lot of cash to yank out the mods from the PvP gear to place it into my custom gear because i love how the character looks. I can't wait to get to level 40 to slap in those mods into what I got on now. My gear progressed, I'm happy my gear improved and I look how I want to. I'm still waiting to see the down side. Hell even some cash is taken out of circulation from me spending all that money to swap out ALL those mods.

Bottom line this looks like a good idea to me all round.

Haha, but really... it's not asking for much is it? SWTOR's lack of epic quest-chain lead-ups to the end-game raids already contributes to this 'lack of epeen'. I guess what I'm trying to say is that for much of the entire game you don't feel like you're progressing on something epic as a server because it's probably assumed people have already beaten the nightmare mode on everything.

So it would just be nice if for once it felt like we were doing something as a server, or even as a faction; Ilum is a strong contender for this, but it's only for a fleeting moment compared with the time you'll be spending in the game - it would be better if there was something that a player/faction/server could do that would provide entertainment for a longer period of time, perhaps over several weeks/months.

hope i'm making sense here.

Carebears are the worst thing to happen to any MMO.

Carebear: - "I want stuff, but I don't want to have to invest any time or effort into it"

Games Designer:- "But what about the challenge, and the intricate narrative we have woven into the game experience?"

Carebear:- "If I'm not level 50 in a week and in full Rakata by the end of the day I'm quitting"

Games Designer:- "But if we give you everything, you will have earnt nothing. Its like giving Joe Public a Gold at the Olympics just so its would be fair"

Carebear:- "Look challenging content eats into my "fun" time. Its better if you just give me everything I want now so I can go back to having "fun" not really doing anything because there is no need for me to because I already have everything. Also while you're at it, I need you to nerf all content into the ground so I can do it without having to try, because trying means its hard and hard takes time and I only have time for "fun""

Games Designer:- "I don't know why I bothered"

Gear progression is good, story progression is even better. I ve played countless games that focus on gear progression, this is the first MMO that focuses on story. If this was just one more case of space looking-wow/eq/etc, then it would be lost in the abundance of similar games with only difference the better/worse gfx (according to personal preference) or better/worse boss mechanics (same as previous).

Whats fresh is that it makes people hungry not for the next piece of gear but for the next twist of the story. Whats fresh is that the game gives access of seeing / beating every boss in the game, to all players - not just a fraction of them who "play better"/"are more focused"/"spend enormous amount of time in the game".

If you want gear show off in a "medieval" (kind of) world try WoW, if you want gear show off in space try GW, if you want pvp in space try EvE, if you want story progression stay here, relax and have fun with the awesome book/movie picture that Bioware has prepared for us.

When you live in a gray world, the new approach isnt a different scale of gray but something colorful (yellow/blue/red). When all MMO's are gear driven (gray), the new isnt one more of that kind...
