Well it does take loads of online mixed martial arts tournaments with digital cows and online extreme sports activities with chasing mobs that drop cash because you can save money for like a whole month for like 500million gold and lose it in a few seconds due to fail craft/socket.

I find that harder then actual offline martial arts and sports, at least offline I know I get something in return for all the effort. o.o

Thank heavens this game has no RNG.

It clear that a lot of people assumed SWTOR would be gear-driven, but this doesn't seem to be all that true, given how easy it is to get gear here. It's also clear that many people WANT SWTOR to be gear-driven, for various reasons, many of which seem to boil down to familiarity. WoW is very gear-driven and many people assume all games should (or must) be the same.
Serious question here for you....what do you see that is in game to drive people to continue once they hit 50?

From what I see...it is gear...same as other games...people do PvP to gain valor levels to gain gear to be able to continue to succeed to get more gear.

People continue to do the same FP's and Ops to get gear and to help their friends get the gear they desire that drops in those instances.

I am curious what your take is on that if not gear centric once the story line ends?

Do you mean after all 8 story line ends?

In EQ, you ran dungeons to get gear -- in order to run more dungeons. The goal was to be able to do the next dungeon/plane/whatever, and survive it. The gear was the MEANS TO THE END. Beating the boss was the achievement; the gear was a token of that achievement, but not the primary driver.

Now, somehow, instead of gear being the key to being able to beat new content, gear is the GOAL. This is broken. This is poor game design. I don't know if it started in WoW, but it's dominant there, and SWTOR seems to have copied it wholesale.

Game design should be centered on getting the gear to unlock the next tier of content, not on running content to unlock the next tier of gear.

OK sure. What drives people to play once the story runs out...all 8?

By that time, there will be expansions with more story.

Yea, it's sad that some folks can't appreciate this game for what it is, and where it will go in the future.

SW:TOR is unique, and well rounded enough to survive in the current sea of MMOs. Makeing it into 'just another gear grind', or turning it into, 'you pay monthly to farm mats for our raid guilds', would kill this game in an instant.

People just need to calm down, and realize how important the story of this game is, and how deeply it's woven into everything that makes this game so special.

I agree with the op and the above poster.

I love the game but a group of 8 people shouldnt walk into KP hard mode for the first time and one shot everything, which is exactly what we did. My guild isnt hardcore raiders in all rakata in fact 2 people were in there for the first time.

This should never happen. There are 3 modes but no increase in difficulty between normal and hard, no change in gear drops from hard to nightmare

Everyone should raid if they want and everyone should have success, but you have tiers for a reason, but there isnt one atm. No risk vs reward and really no challenge

This isnt about casual vs hardcore it is about utilizing the tools already in the game to appease all types of players.

The system is there but they dont use it

The posts about nothing to do at 50 are valid for raiders. It shouldnt take 2 hours to finish off a raid in hard mode especially with the raid being your first crack at it.
Hard should be hard, nm should be very hard and make the rewards match the difficulty

This seems like a no brainer to me as well, but apparently the concept is hard to grasp around here. There seems to be a general prejudice towards hardcores in thinking that they're trying to wag their epeens all over the place because they've cleared the hardest content.

I'm not even hardcore and I think it's absurd.
