Its the measuring stick for gamer ego whose said ego is closely tied to their success in the game and how much they can differentiate themselves from those who have not achieved what they have.

I never used the term before this thread but I am assuming this is a decent description for it lol

I'm ... not quite sure what that is.

Oh, do you mean "phallic" symbol? That makes sense.

That's prietty much it.

At it's core it's a digital version of Alpha Male posturing. The need to be 'top dog' in a digital realm.

Believe me the amount of anger thrown at this game, and the demands that this game be changed, to please the Alpha is worth a thesis, or two.

It's fascinating, it really is.

Does every MMO have to be gear driven? Who said this one would be?

It clear that a lot of people assumed SWTOR would be gear-driven, but this doesn't seem to be all that true, given how easy it is to get gear here. It's also clear that many people WANT SWTOR to be gear-driven, for various reasons, many of which seem to boil down to familiarity. WoW is very gear-driven and many people assume all games should (or must) be the same.

Want a real epeen game ? Asian mmo's. Where you can lose your gear/modifactions when it breaks due to fail craft/socketing and it already took you first 2 years of RNG to get it in the first place.

I was thinking mixed martial arts tournament fighting or extreme sports activities, but, ehh...I guess the real achievements to such effects are too hard.

To me, it seems like a safe assumption as there is NOTHING else to do at end game beyond pursuing the next tier of gear. What else is there? It's a theme park MMO. There are no sandbox elements and short of getting gear, the only other thing to do is roll alts--something that a large part of the player base would prefer not to do, especially since 80% of the content is the same the second time through.

Bioware needs to decide what kind of game they want TOR to be. Based on the similarities with WoW, I would bet that they want end-game to be gear/progression driven. If that's the case, they better find a way to bring some longevity to end game.

Having a game that allows people to access all of the content is great.
