People may not think so in their minds, but the mountain is what keeps you coming back for more. The trick is to not make it a treadmill that people give up on. But going too far the other way is just as bad.

That the loss of the hardcore players alone is leading to ghost town servers? Do tell.

I said that lack of challenge would lead to apathy. He claimed all the apathy is in the minority. I responded saying it's already happening and the loss cant be attributed to disaffected hardcore players alone.
