Because the lightning is a physical manifestation of the dark side, and a corruption of the force. You can't produce that kind of effect unless you are all but consumed by the dark side already.

And anyone trying to tell you different is just trying to seduce you to the dark side.

the reason the jedi chose not use lightning is because it is a form of attack and the jedi never use the force a form of attack they only use the force in defence of those who have non or of them selves from an attack. there is you answer

The use of lightning, cryokinetics, and pyrokinetics are largely fueled by a persons passions. Specifically anger and hate. You have to have zero remorse for the pain caused to a person, or their death, as you cook them from the inside and send their muscles into spams, roast them, or drain their life energies turning them into frozen husks.

The Jedi do have a form of lightening called Electric Judgement, used by Plo Koon and (I think) Luke Skywalker.

Besides, Sith like to show off, and lightening is shiny.
This just in: Expanding on an ending no one likes is not improving said ending. A polished turd is still a turd.

Why Jedi don't use force lightning?

This is why:

Although for the most part this idea was abandoned in just about everything that was published after Empire Strikes Back.

Can't wait for there to be an underwater environment in SWTOR.

All those Sith will be like self-cooking lobsters. Bioware will have to change the name of "Force Lightning" to "Do you want Fries With that".

Guys, Sith Lightning isn't actually lightning. More like DS energy. It has nothing to do with physics of electricity.

Jedi can use Force Lightning, but most don't because it is a Dark Side abilaty. This does not mean you have to be evil to use it, but it does open you to the Dark Side since it is fuled by your passions.
Good, Evil? These are merely concepts that exist only in our minds. It is our perception that determines an act as being right or wrong.

It's not just lightening though it also decalcify your bones and/or cause mental

anguish . also the wattage is not as important as the ohms that's what will kill you
