The names Rodian, Twi'lek, and several other names and ideas all came from the West End Games published Star Wars RPG from the 80s/90s. In fact, a large amount of the EU's foundation derives from material created for the RPG, alongside the earlier novels, script notes, and to some extent the Marvel comics. When Zahn asked for reference material when writing the original Thrawn Trilogy, he was given a stack of the RPG books, further cementing the RPG's influence on the EU.
