Game version 2: Combat logs added to game. Everyone must now download an add on or be shunned. If you aren't number 1 on the dps, you're made fun of or called names. The community goes to crap. Some classes under perform, and are not allowed to do endgame because the bosses will magically not die anymore, according to elitists. They probably won't, when everyone is standing in the fire and not using interrupts because they must do max dps or be booted. Everyone plays a cookie cutter class/spec.

Which version sounds better to you? I wish we could have meters and everyone play nice together, but you know that can't happen.

Are you reading this thread at all?

Your first scenario is what we have now, except everyone is not happy in the end. These fights are a joke, so simple and easy. Some of us want a challenge out of nightmare modes, BW can't provide that kind of difficulty without people being able to analyze the fights properly, a combat log would be one tool to help them do that.

I understand where you are coming from. I really do.

I edited my previous post and I'll repeat it here, there isn't a point in arguing. Logs are coming if you support them or not.

I just don't want the elitism they will bring. Oh well, I guess I can try to hit 50 fast and do some endgame before I'm no longer allowed.

Nobody is asking for normal or even hard modes to have their difficulty increased, we seem to all be fine with those remaining as easy as they are, it's just nightmare modes that need adjusting. If you're content running hard modes right now then that shouldn't change when logs are implemented.

OR

If you wanna get into nightmares then use the combat log and work at it a little bit. It's pretty rewarding when you see your numbers increase after an adjustment. The information on how to improve yourself is and will be out there, just google it or look at the stickies for your class forums.

I'm seriously going to LMFAO when a lot of these people posting about the meters/mod's are the one's getting the "guild kick" for not being up to par by the " I the GOD of SWTOR guy".

We don't need them , EVER !

Everything has be completed so far. WITHOUT this garbage !

That is the problem, not the solution.
I have one of every class and play them all. I give up on this class signature thing.

so when do you start spamming numbers to the pick up groups we're in.

post 1.2 or pre 1.2

after all each and every person here should understand the vast importance of arbitrary numbers. it increases epeen size by a factor of 10

this game's community continues to baffle me. then again, so do the game features (or lack thereof rather)..

So in summary :

Pro combat logs (and dps meters by extention)
Efficiency:
1) Ability to use hps/dps numbers to improve personal performance.
2) Ability for raid leaders to review fights:
-To determin the cause and solution to specific fight related problems.
-To be able to see recuring raid member specific issue's.
3) Ability for raid leaders to obtain information regarding hps and dps of the raid members:
-To give advise on how they could perform better.
-Request they research their class to perform better.
-Replace players from raids in hardcore raid enviroments when they are the cause of entire raid failure.

Social:
1) Allows for competitive gameplay (I am aware others consider this a con)
2) Allows people to see who in their group is not pulling their weight.
3) Discourages slacking in groups.

Con combat logs:
Efficiency:
1) Improved situational awareness:
-No DPS/HPS pressure.
-No visible loss of dps when movement is required.

Social:
1) Bullying of players when they do not perform to community set standards.
-Removing from groups or guilds due to too low (metric) performance.
2) Worsening of the community atmosphere:
-Elitism and epeen behavior can be expressed through metrics.
3) Metric requirements for grouping.
4) Blissfull ignorance of personal performance.

Personal note: This is what i've gathered from skimming through several(allot) pages of this thread and i dont agree with some of the issues presented on both sides of the issue, but they were common enough for me to include them in the summary. I applogise if i've missed out on anything.

What i would conclude from this is that it is basically a matter between controll(efficiency) on the pro side versus the social implications this controll would bring to the game. However, the issue as presented on these forums is rather dark or light side themed, while i personally believe that the implementation of a form of combat log/dps meter could be done in such a way they impact the community as little as possible and thus keeping both sides somewhat happy. (FYI, i do believe the trolling against combat logs feels like they are entirely emotional impulse driven, i do hope those people are not playing light sided jedi!)

the only reason I would want a combat log is to see if my own personal setup improves or worsens with the changes I make. BUT if me getting a parser results in everyone being dooshes about DPS then that will kill it for me. Keep it out of the game...Please.
