Pretty disingenuous to be attacking that poster for making that argument when those of us who would like to have a reasonable discussion on the forums are treated day in, day out to the exact same ragequit DOOM DOOM DOOM!!!!! complaint thread regurgitated over and over and over and over and over and over again by the same trolls and jerks who claim not to like the game but care about it enough that they spend all their time on the forums trying to get everyone else to hate it too. Seriously...don't complain about someone regurgitating the response....complain first about the people regurgitating AD NAUSEUM the same posts that elicit that response.

While I agree with the OPs sentiment that some of the complaints about the game are premature, that doesn't change the fact that BW has severely tarnished their image in the eyes of many longtime fanbois of the developer.

You use the example of WoW. This is a good point. A game that's been out for 7 years better be more developed that a new game. However, a smart developer would take lessons learned by Blizzard and apply them here. All great innovators stand on the shoulders of giants.

Seasoned MMO RPG players are very aware of the fundamental shortcomings of TOR. It's not that this game won't improve over the years, but it just doesn't have that special something. This isn't a game that will sustain millions of subscribers for the better part of a decade.

BW was so tight-lipped for so long about development for this game. You would be hard pressed to find something other than speculations anywhere on the internet. The community was constantly hearing this BW attitude that "things will be done when they're done". They wanted to release a polished, high-quality product.

Two months after launch, and players are still having issues installing the game and getting it to run. Players who have had the game running well will install a patch and end up with issues preventing them from playing anymore. Basic game designs are unfinished, half-assed or just unacceptably poor considering the time and resources behind this project.

This game is a lot of glitz and glam but very light on substance. They clearly focused on the leveling experience, and they nailed it. It's a great design, the voice acting is immersive, and the mechanics are fun. But players are literally farming leveling with 3, 4 or even 5 level 50s who they haven't spent much time playing after hitting the cap. This is a big deal, and should be repeated: players are playing the game up to the point of hitting the level cap, at which point they are parking those characters.

This is a very tough industry. BW has already lost a good chunk of subscribers who may never look back. At this rate, it would be reasonable to expect that by years end BW is offering promotional deals to try and win back subscribers. In case you weren't sure, there are no successful comeback stories in the MMO industry.

Yes, it's only been 2 months. But that's pretty much all you get in this arena. The first impression is over. Yes, other games have technical issues at launch, but this game has much more glaring design issues that may be fixed within the next 6 months but most players won't stick around to find out.

BW hyped their stories and voice-acting, they launched this game, and people realized that they hyped those things because it's all they had going for themselves. Anyone who's been playing since launch has seen every trick in their bag. Even the 1.2 update previews are revealing paltry enhancements to systems that are inherently flawed. They have no innovation or creativity left.

You don't have to agree, you just have to stay alive for the remainder of 2012 when the MMO community reviews the life and death of the most expensive and hyped gaming project in history.

this is 2012, vent or mumble is ok for guilds, in game voice for random people who are grouping for small contents like heroic 2+, however none of this make sense to you if you play alone or only with selected player

So the old fashioned "if you don't like this game go play XXXX" falls completely flat.

This is what the the other side of the argument fails to take note of: If the game (for whatever reason) does not keep people playing, it will not succeed to the degree it could have if it had been more polished and complete at launch; the developers will simply not have the cash--and therefore the manpower--to roll out enough content to satiate the players already there.

It's called attrition. All MMOs suffer from it, but some more than others.

TOR suffers from some of the same problems STO did at launch; that is to say that BioWare has a lot of work ahead of them in terms of getting the game up to speed before they can then add new features and content. Put another way, they're stuck patching holes in the road, but not adding to it's length.

So while we all know that new games don't launch to the degree of quality that other games do, not all games are created equal either. Turnaround on new content is directly related to level of polish and completeness that the game enjoyed (or lacked) at launch.

In the case of TOR, I simply don't see how the team is going to be able to catch up in a length of time short enough to keep those already at end-game playing simply because the game lacked a proportionately large amount of content and features at launch.

Yep folks, that is mmo gamers, want new mmo's to be launching with content equivalent to WoW. That is:
20 + 7 + 16 + 7 = 50 INSTANCES/ DUNGEONS
Vanilla + BC + WotLK + Cata
4 + 8 + 9 + 6 = 27 RAIDS
Vanilla (excluding Zuls) + BC +WotLK + Cata
8 BATTLEGROUNDS/WARZONES

Wow that's ALOT of content for a new game to launch with, NO WONDER mmo's nowadays "fail", how could they possible come out with 50 instances and 27 raids at launch! Not even the main competitor did that! Not to mention that's ALOT of story to go through!

Some of you are just plain ole fools, set realistic expectations instead of nonsense like "It's been released in 2011 and should have the same amount of content as WoW 2011!" With that logic then NO mmo will be good enough and you'd be better off staying with WoW

Because I still have never seen an in game voice function that works in a way that I find worth using. Also, vent is far from expensive, and just about every guild with more than 10 active members has a dedicated server.

And no, I do not want to talk to every person I group with, as many of them brought their unpleasant "leet" mentalities littered with d00d speak.

Lol this.

Oh no! My 2012 Stock WRX STI got beat by the 2004 Model? Well, sure it has 7 years of performance upgrades, but why doesn't my 2012 have aftermarket performance kits?
