yeah, same with lotro. Turbine is probably the only company out there that does f2p 'the right way' (though of course lots of subscriber/lifetime accounter still have legitimate reasons to complain)

too bad most people don't even know why these two games went f2p and put them into the same 'oh the game is crap because it's gone f2p' box.

(ps: maturaty wise, lotro beats tor hands down, f2p or not, but I doubt it has much to do with the pay model and much more with the number of players. wow afterall is known for having a really bad community as a whole ;D)

I have been playing LOTRO in 'periods' of a few months and then breaks since it came out. Every time I go back, I resub.

I avoid Pay-to-win games at all cost. I love SW:TOR, but if it went P2W, I would quit in a heartbeat.

Don't they have where you can buy permanent stat upgrades in their cash shop?

Umm... both games went F2P because they weren't generating revenues any more. It was their only option to remain profitable. Once a game drops below about 100K paying subs, it then can make more revenues for awhile by going F2P simply because it will suddenly have 2 million people each paying, on average, about $1.50 a month. (For every person who pays something, 5 will pay nothing at all.)

It's not a model a dev employs by preference and the way you know this is true is that you NEVER see a triple A game designed as F2P.

Free to play =/= pay to win.

A good free to play model is usually one where you can get XP boosts and cosmetic stuff, like skins for gear or minipets or whatever.

Please, do not confuse XP boosts with power. For XP boosts to take effect, you still need to play the game, meaning it's a perfectly acceptable thing to sell.

He did say triple-A, bro.

"Sounds like you could use a soldier."
