Can companions use medpacks and stims, and if so do we share a cooldown period?

No they cannot.

The only way to give a companion the benefit of a medpac is to use one made by Biochem that heals both you and your companion. Otherwise, you need to be a healer to heal your companion.

Ah, thanks. Too bad, I'm a Jedi Shadow, I don't do Healing

Well, you could always do Biochem to get the meds that heal you and your companion. It's not absolutely necessary though -- but something a lot of people like having.

couldn't I just buy them off the GTN? I'm sticking with artifice, treasure hunting and archaeology.

Yeah, you could. Probably not the cheapest way to go. Or befriend someone who is a Biochem.

I find this really annoying, to be honest.

What are you referring to that you find annoying? Companions? Medpacs? Medpacs that heal both you and a companion? Biochem? Buying stuff off the GTN?
I shot first.

Could've been clearer, I suppose.

What the OP brought up, that you can't just use your medpacks on your companions. Annoying.
