A pretty much guaranteed way to increase republic's population would be to add playable alien races(wookiees, rodians, trandoshans, etc) to the republic side.

The only way to fix this is allow people to defect, but only at 50. Make a special "defection" set of trainers. Make a class defection quest for each class.
Majynn, L65 Sorc - Harbinger
Garadan, L65 Jugg- Harbinger
Vongrath, L65 Op - Harbinger
Tradius Ahern, L65 Gunslinger - BB&B- Harbinger

Think it's been adjusted since that video. Prob someone need to do a new one. Because when I did it the dmg was dealt on the trooper as soon as the shot left the gun before it even hit the mob. And it was pretty spot on as to when the dmg was dealt. Then again I didn't use digital on screen clocks like in the video.

And you rack up a ton of Light Side points by just being what you're supposed to be. A nice and peace loving hippie. You don't feel as if there is any decision making at all, you just space bar through the dialogue and choose Light Side, because, well, it fits the character.

And that's where the fun starts on Imperial side. Often you take the Light side action and people tell you how your mercy has actually worked out for the Empire in the end. You act on mercy and compassion instead of pure rage and it just... well, feels good. Because you know you could have just zapped that poor helpless guy standing in front of you.

Choices for Imps sway more towards extremes. With every DS/LS choice I had that nagging feeling "do you really want to do this?". I have never had that on my Reps.

Plus I have to say that after playing Reps as well as Imps I have to say that at least on my server the Imperials are actually the more mature community. People overall struck me as friendlier and more willing to socialise. I have seen a lot less silly or downright offensive names with the Empire. From what I have seen so far, the cool kids have joined Republic because they all thought the other cool kids were going to join Empire and they could easily pwn them

I indirectly killed 300 prisioners to win a crucial battle on Alderaan. I have been able to convert at least 3 of my Sith/Dark Jedi foes into the order and done so, could have easily killed them, The romance dark side points isn't related to the romance but to the Jedi code and outright lying to Jedi Masters.

" I have to say that at least on my server the Imperials are actually the more mature community"

I have played both sides rep to 50, imp to 41 so far... And on Infinity Gate, there are ******es on both sides, Dromund Kaas chat's level of dumbness rivalizes Coruscant's, sometimes surpasses it.

This is so true. And I'm also always taking the dark side hit for some nookie.

You get *****holes on both sides esp when it comes to PvP. They'd ignore the leader or anyone who forms a plan and then complain how the plan sucked. I've met cool people and idiots. However you tend to encounter more idiots and *****holes during PvP.

this, there's not reason for smugglers/BH to be on one side + republic got agents/imps got troopers too.

however, wouldn't make much sense from a story point. as trooper you spend your first act finding your defected former squadmates - only to defect later anyway?

defection would work pretty well gameplay-wise, but their big emphasis on "story" (which is over at 50 anyway) f*cks it up.

One of the many problems is that I think the design team dropped the ball on the Republic armor designs. Granted some of them are okay but they don't even come close to the awesome factor that is the Empire armor.

On top of that there is a lot of bias in this game towards Empire. The intro, certain cinematics, some story play, etc.. It's subtle but it's there. Heck the devs did say they will be playing Empire when the game comes out.

I just started leveling a Republic alt myself, and after getting the ship I can safely say that the only reason there are more Empire than Republics is the ship robot. Good lord the republic one is creepy.

If you watched the movies or anything Star Wars related you'd know that Republic wear rags and not fancy armor.

third faction. and player factions. make our dark/light side choices matter. make guilds matter. EVE's balance issues are not game breaking, they are the game.
