Ok after having a lot of fun with tactics I am back to my tried and true shield spec!

Yojack Build 2013 Shield Spec PVP (current build for warzones, tweak to taste for pve)

Screenshot of a recent Voidstar:

Yojacks PVP build 2.0 Max damage version (Tactics)

Burst damage with shoulder cannon, 10 secs of hold the line....almost unlimited ammo....this is just too good. I miss easy medals with ion cell, but tactics is where its out for dps now =)

YOJACK BUILD 2013 MAX MITIGATION Version 1.6 <-- Void star with max damage version (only 8 minute match)

**********************BELOW IS ARCHIVED DATA FOR REFERENCE************************

YOJACK BUILD 2012 Max Damage Version 1.3

Still just a great all around spec with room for tweaks based on pvp or pve. Tweak to taste but use the Yojack Build as a guide especially for Vanguard and Powertechs.

This will be an ongoing thread dedicated to everything Trooper including builds, strategies and gameplay mechanics.

For starters I will be rolling SS Vanguard Light side and following this build:

Update, although I hate being forced to take a 31 point skill, especially one so lackluster as energy blast, the ammo regen is an absolute must and for now...the following is my build going forward:

Yojack Build 2012 Energy Blast and overall pvp/pve

The basis of this build is with the expense of respecs and no dual spec is optimal to have one cookie cutter build that excels in both pve/pvp/questing/raiding. The focus is heavy mitigation while still bringing very respectful pve dps....and being an absolute beast in 1 vs 1 and team pvp.

Yojack Build 2012 Max Damage Version: <<<---Current Spec

As above but skipping out on some damage mitigation to get 6% more hib and ion pulse damage. Its the most damage increasing skills available to take so its the max damage version of my original build above. I am currently running this spec 24/7.

Yojack Approved pure pvp shield spec:

Beast survivability, very good dps, guard, 4% pbaoe dmg debuff and 30% damage debuff from taunt and of course storm, grapple and shorter duration interupt for healers. If dual spec gets implemented, this would be my pure pvp build for rated warzones and my dual spec when/if its ever implemented.

And the Yojack Approved High Energy Cell Hybrid:

This build is just pure fun...while not as immortal as the above spec, it is a great pvp build and excels at voidstar and open world pvp.

Assault DPS Spec (PVE only)

Just a cookie cutter max dps spec....the reasoning for no assault plastique is that its a minimal gain over sitcky grenade and its off my hotbar for most trash and fights where cc is involved anyway

For leveling progression is as follows:

first two points into demolition for 6% crit (helps early on with dps) then stick strictly to the dps talents up the shield spec line and rush to storm and then energy blast. Finish up tactics to blaster augs and get your 8% to stockstrike...have fun at 50 =)

I wont go over macro use or its variations of hardware and software implementation but whatever you use, your priority should be:

Blitz...Stock Strike....HIB....Sticky Grenade...Energy Blast....Ion Pulse....Hammer Shot

Spamming one button will at range throw a grenade or hib if available or hammer shot until your in range. Once in range it will stockstrike, energy blast, ion pulse an rinse and repeat hib and sticky grenade. This has been tested personally since beta and 1-50 retail and has been working flawlessly to maximize dps while taking some of the tedious hotkey work and finger mashing giving more time to concentrate on position and movement both in pvp and pve (don't stand on the big target at your feet! lol).

Ongoing pics gallery for Shield Spec Vanguard pvp domination (All taken using my current shield spec): Argh was so close to getting 14 medals too! 2/16/12 Would have had 14 medals with frozen water Nice 10 medal, top damage voidstar...still had 3 minutes left too 2/28/12 New personal best, 13 medals and top damage and protection.
Another 13 medal performance to show its now a fluke

This thread is a continuation of the one I had going in the beta forums and I encourage all questions and feedback and will try to reply as often as possible. For those that aren't familiar with me I was an original beta rogue from wow and had several 1000+ post threads discussing optimizing play and stunlocking strategies etc.

I look forward to this thread helping new and potential troopers getting the most out of there character and the game! Ask me your questions and thanks for reading!

Oh yeah. Bring it!

What order do you think the build should develop. What points where first?

Welcome back you as well!

I have 2 questions:
  1. What crew skills will you take and why?
  2. How will you progress your talents? Wich skill trees will you invest in first?

How tanky will your build be?

What are the pros and cons for going 34/5/2 tree instead of yours?

If this is a Vanguard spec why don't you post it inside Vanguard sub-forum?

Was kind of thinking the same thing. Not that I'm hating on my Vanguard brethren, but that it would probably do more good being there than being in the general trooper section.

Hello to all,

As I am running a Vanguard spec, the mechanics of Troopers overlap so a question and answer thread seemed best in the trooper forum.

1 vs 1 , trooper and this spec is at the top of the food chart in my opinion right now, of course patches will change this =)

I am going to be placing points in shield tree unitl storm, then ill hit tactics and finish the remaining filler points in shield. When I have more time I will come back and post point by point speccing and combos for 1 vs 1 domination =)

This is a PvP/PvE Tanking build, its dps will be lackluster in endgame PvE environment imo.

I see you have given in to the temptation of Gut. While it's not an impressive DPS ability, I have come to believe that its true value is as a buff for HIB, since moar DOTs = moar exposure to HIB. And the DOT lasts as long as the CD, I think, which means you can basically have HIB available on demand if you keep Gut running all the time.

I have a somewhat related question for you, which is: when it comes to Counter Attack, what do you think of it as a buff for Shield Cycler and Static Shield? When you look at the mitigation alone, it might not seem that impressive for 5 points, but how do you see it as a resource management + DPS buffing tool (moar ammo + moar Stockstrike seems like it might make the 5 points seem less extravagant).
