Most certainly was not a throwaway line and I don't think your giving it to much thought. Big bird from the hand of the film-maker George, to the president George. Also Lucas is a Buddhist and most of them believe that nothing is inherently good or bad on it's face value. Obi-wan was just probably saying that Anakin in particular, as a former Jedi, a person who had so much responsibility and power, shouldn't fall into that mentality. He even falls into passion himself at the end, exclaiming to Anakin 'Chancellor Palpatine is evil!'
