Most players in ANY game do not play at once Swtor is no different. I believe that during the first month swtor had more players on at once then Wow

This is my concern. Valkar Highway may indeed have 10,000 subs, but 9,900 of those are apparently Empire.

At 11pm last night I was solo on Balmorra. And at Midnight there were only 60 people on the Fleet.

I'm trying to figure out why a game must have 1/2 a million increase every month to be considered successful? So there was an influx of people at launch and over the Christmas break. Shocker. People played more over said launch and Christmas break. Again, no one saw that right?

Some are using the fact that less copies sold this month than last month as a sign that the game is failing. That's funny. This isn't food. You don't have to re-buy once you already have bought some. Unless people leave one game for this one there will come a point where sales will taper off.

People still don't get that World of Warcraft was a freak of MMO gaming nature. No one, not Blizzard, other game companies, even the gamers themselves predicted World of Warcraft staggering success in the MMO genre and expecting all other games to follow to have that kind of success is silly.

Before World of Warcraft if an MMO had 3-400K subs it was considered OP. Now you're talking about 1.7Mil as crap numbers. So funny. Fact is BioWare is working on the issues people do have with the game. They have rollout plans for new content and also this game is way more playable at launch than practically every other MMO out past and present. I believe Rift was the only exception.

There's a lot of people currently having fun, and a lot of people willing to give them time to fix bugs, add features and added content. I am not worried about the game.

500-300k?

We're in a period of high sales (TOR was #3 in the UK PC sales chart last week), and yet server pops are stable/marginally negative.

Looking at TOR with a fresh set of eyes, maybe this game is a poor fit for the $n/month subscription model?

A GW-style model seems more apt:
- pay to purchase the box.
- then, free to play online.
- expansion cost $$$.

Given the design of SWTOR the expansions could be 'micro-expansions' released regularly...

I just can't see people paying $n a month for TOR, but I could imagine them spending another $n to see the next chapter... /shrug

I am sorry but SWTOR is an amazing MMO and it will be here to stay, keep paying a subscription to hate, you are helping development costs.
Thats a wet dream, I'd kill for it but Beth is one of the last studios to avoid the linear playstyle in rpg's. I don't see em trying to enter the mmo market while the standards(and market share) are set to rail content.
The only thing that should impact a players success/failure in pvpplayervsplayeris his/her skill not what they are wearing. EA/BioWare certainly aren't shouting the subscriber numbers from the rooftops, which is a little worrying. I kind of expect silence until they feel pressured to make a statement in the next EA quarterly report.

It's only month #1, so it's not really a "drop" of 300k (~15%), but rather a "chose to subscribe" rate of 85%, which isn't all that bad.

Oceanic should bring in some new players, and maybe a Spring Mac OS port, too, but I'm a slow-leveling player and am already feeling the blahs at level 31. I doubt they can keep the subscriber number above 1.5M by June. I hope they can keep it above 1M through the summer, but that seems to be where it's headed, in my opinion right now.
Do you support a Mac client for SWTOR?
BioWare Founders do! (once they get "everything stabilized and happy.")

Around 1 Million.

I see this game declining in subs for a bit until they get their end game up and running much better than now. This is really a solo game with 8 different stories, with some decent pvp and group content tossed in.

Guild Wars 2 could really hurt them whenever that launches.
