I see what you are getting at - you want to know if I will give it to someone else so they can equip it?

I only want to point out that "equip" is term that can be interpreted in a variety of ways.
Spirit of the warrior is born through rejection and tears.

I know they think that - what he wants to know is it ok to roll Need (equip) if you are not going to equip it on whatever YOU play, you are going to give it to someone ELSE to equip it on whatever THEY play.

That is an interesting question.

That's a good point. Perhaps an [Optional - Can Use (reduced chance)] button instead which would not have a "leading" name.

I would like the ability to reduce my chance against someone else without eliminating it, should I so choose. But you are right that a actual Need for Companion button would create social pressure to not press "need" for a companion, even if you thought it appropriate at the time.

This is why pugs are bad and why you should only go with your guild mates or members of an alliance. There are going to be jerks out there who don't care about you or your needs. They are the people to avoid. Get the name and never run with them again.
But the way to fix the issue is to not run with a PUG.

That IS why I would only run group content with a random PuG group of strangers under the NbG loot system because it doesn't matter if they care about anyone else's needs or not since the NbG loot system ensures everyone gets an equal chance to win the fruits of their labors that they personally decide they need.

I don't really expect the other group members to give any thought about my needs. They should be focusing on getting ready to attack the next mob, not checking everyone else's character sheets to compare stats.

Why can't each person look at the loot and determine whether they need it and let other people determine for themselves if they need it and then move on.

EDIT: If you say in chat "Please don't roll need on this, I need it", I will probably not roll need. But I am not going to making spreadsheets to ensure that I have considered all the other people's needs before each roll. In any case, they don't need my help deciding how to roll.

I personally never ask other players who just helped make something drop to not roll Need on it.

I feel since they helped that they earned the right to roll Need if they decide they need it.

If someone decided to ask me to not roll Need on something after I just helped make it drop instead of asking me BEFORE we ran the content together?

If I needed it as well, then I would say "I need it as well." and wait for their reply.

If I did not need it as well, then I would say "I am rolling Greed since I do not need it as well." or if my bags were full I would say "I am passing since I do not need it as well and I have no room in my bags for it."

I was kicked out of a guild becuse this loot drama and i was in a group with Guild Members in a flashpoint and they got mad becuse i kept rolling.. and they said i had to ask to roll for it... i don't need this... treatment... if they cant just accept that i got the roll... and they jealous... then i dint need to be in a group with a bunch of trolls like that... I'm always made out to be the bad guy becuse i either speak my mind or they want things a certain way...

If someone cared about the loot enough to ask in chat for it, then I usually let them have it. If I really wanted it, I might say so, but usually I don't care enough to trigger loot drama.

EDIT: Note the word "ask", which is different from "tell". If "tell" was in play, then I might proceed differently.
