GLBT discrimination in forums? | 04.25.2009 , 11:32 PM
Just wanted to point out that disallowing the usage of the words G-A-Y and L-E-S-B-I-A-N in this forum is something we (the GLBT community) cringe at witnessing. I understand where it comes from, but my advise to Bioware is to rethink this. Blizzard got some really bad press when they tried to forbid the usage of these words, and it would be really disappointing if Bioware would follow such a conservative policy in their forum - and their game.

You realize that the reason those words are not allowed is because this is a video game forum and 99% of their usage will be in a negative connotation,

ie. These forums can't get much G**er.

Also, in the future please don't try to bypass the profanity filter.

Well wouldn't the solution be just to use the word hom-osexual? Ok it was banned as well...

@ Above. Your last sentence is just completely unnecessary.

Erm,

Well, I'm sorry to hear about your concern but you must understand what your URL says and that is a Online Gaming forum, that's kind of how it works on some forums with some people, as sad as it is.

And why should they rethink this. There is no reason at all to unblock the words you handily got past the filter. In a forum dominated by topics on TOR, Videogames and Star Wars, there is no need for discussion of LGBT rights except in OT, which is 80% spam and lolcats pictures anyway, as the words you highlighted would be used in a derogatory manner in just about every case.

I don't care if TOR gets unjustifiable bad press from a tiny minority group, unblocking the words would cause more trouble than it would save.

I agree, people's orientation don't matter because everyone is equal. So why argue about it?

Because we exist! No matter how much some want to make us unexist, if not with weapons then now with banning how we call ourselves.

What if you came to a place where the word "Black" or "Women" was banned? Sure, people can use it as a negative word, anytime. But thats no point to ban it. It is how we chose to call ourselves. And don't quote forum rules against me! Sometimes there are things of higher value and important, even than rules and laws, and that is when people are denied to call themselves as they are and when people are denied to be recognized in their existence and being!

"Doesn't matter what the press says, doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say, doesn't matter if the whole COUNTRY decides that something wrong is something right.

This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole WORLD tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world 'No YOU move."

Sorry if I sounded disrespectful but I just wish people wouldn't argue all the time. I guess I was being dismissive, I'm just not very good at facing arguments head on

I really did not wish to bother anyone trust me. I fight this because I must, even tho I hate that I have to. I wish I could just relax and make my stuff. I hate to impose myself on others, believe me. But there are things higher than me, higher than my life.

There is just no need to repeat this:
