Depends on what they consider important to them.

If they consider it important to them (IE: will use it) that is what Need roll is for.

If they consider it not important to them (IE: will not use it) that is what Greed roll is for.

If they don't want it, that is what Pass is for.

If I will use it and I want it, I want to roll Need, just like everyone else who will use it and wants it, otherwise why would I help run the FP?

Use it in its current form - not sell it, not RE, not give it away, not throw it away.

Did you miss the part where if they had played by the traditional rules they would have got the Mods AND the Item instead of just getting the mods? The situation I bought up makes in counter-productive to two players.

Depends on what they wanted - did they want the whole item?

If not, then it would not matter to them.

If that is how you are using it then how are you going to use gear that is not for your class?

I am using it for my character in its current form - I am not going to sell it, I am not going to RE it, I am not going to give it away and I am not going to throw it away. (and it is not going to sit in my bank or bags either)

It is going to benefit my character in its current form.

And this is another reason why I can't take the 'pro need all' -crowd seriously.

I need it for my main character. You need it for your companion. Then I can say I need it more.

How?
Well there are many reasons, but all I need is just one:

My main character will always be there when I play. Your companion will sometimes not be with you when you play.

Therefore I will have more use for it. Therefore I need it more.

So I can quite easily say why I need it more.

We all know this already of course. Some poeple just like to pretend that it's not so.

Pfft. You are not using it as gear. This vagueness is exactly what I'm talking about. If you were using it for gear you'd just say so...but since it's not your class you can't.

Sage: Hey man why'd you roll need on that head piece. I really could have used an orange head piece...
Vanguard: Oh I'm going to use it for my character.
Sage: How so?
Vanguard: I'm just gonna...

People can come up with any reason as to why they should and could roll need on something.

If you are going to roll need for companion at least say so before hand so I know to look for another group.

If I am heading off to solo after the group then it is quite possible that my companion will always be with me until the gear is outleveled.
