You can just measure your competitiveness (is this even a real word?) by following websites that tell which guilds have killed what bosses and when.

Or were you talking about it within a raid? I've never seen anything good come out of within a raidgroup competition. It only leads to stupid mistakes when people just want to top the meters.

Watching dps meters instead of content is when games getting boring.
Watching people do idiotic things just to raise their dps bar in meter is when games getting boring and frustrating.

If you are bored with the game, and only thing that makes it fun for you are some silly bars, go play WoW or something.

I think it all boils down to this: I've already decked myself out in Champion gear. I've already done a fair share of the end-game operations. It's all boring now because there's no competitiveness. I need to feel like I'm competing to have fun, either against myself or others.

For operations, I already feel like I'm doing the best I can do, but I really have no idea how good that is. Bosses die, so I know it's good enough, but knowing that I'm "good enough" isn't all that satisfying. It's like taking a test, and the teacher telling me "You passed" instead of "You got a B". If I'm going to spend time preparing for and executing something, I want to know exactly how well I did.

For pvp, the only way to be competitive is to either compare medals or damage at the end, which we know is skewed data. There sorely needs to be some sort of ranking or rating system, where you move up if you win, and down if you lose, and then try to match warzones in a way that it's an even match based on these ratings. The current system of a plain ole' FIFO (first in, first out) queue leads to randomly balanced games, which makes some games too easy, some games impossible to win, and some games just right. This may not be the best solution, but the completely randomly balanced games has to go.
Just to give you props for this being the most well written pro meters poster I have seen in a long time. I agree by the way, but then I want every possible mechanic explained to save us working out diminshing returns curves etc. Just like in really old computer games, you could read the complex DnD style instructions, or you could ignore them and still enjoy the game.

To bad your arguement is derailed by everyone who seems to agree with you being exactly the type of people that those who oppose you opposing you because of.

On the plus side City of Heroes which is the most casual friendly game I have ever seen eventually realised that allowing people to see real numbers was important. Thankfully the 'you can't join us unless you can do 300dps' bridage never moved there, but seems like they have moved here.
British by act of union, English by grace of God, Northern by pure good fortune!

When I took the bar exam, all they sent me was a thin letter saying, "You passed," and telling me where to show up to get sworn in.

Somehow I was still happy. I think you'll be alright.

Ive been around the forums for a while and this is my first post. I am in disbeleif... How on earth are so many people apposed to damage meters ? do they even understand what a damage meter brings and its reprocussions?

A damage meter is great it lets us compare our dps to everyone, but especially our own classes to min/max. The likes of recount even told us who was getting hit by what, which is invaluable. I played in hardcore guilds but still puged a lot, I never had the problem of some one in the party saying ahh your dps sucks we are going to kick you, apart from a few times where certain dpsers were doing the same amount of damage as a tank.... now.. HOW would we have known that without damage meters?!!! The person was clearly not pulling their own weight. We even told him how to improve... (granted he was an ***)

Implent damage meters... if for some reason people dont want to use it... toggle it off?

This entire arguement for and against damage meters is ridiclous to me, its like ....

Imagine in the olympics 100m sprint, they didnt time the people......... well by some peoples arguements here we can just say... uhhhhhhhhhh we dont need it we can obviosly see who won

I don't care about world firsts or all that jazz. What I care about is bringing as much to the table as I possibly can when I walk into a raid. For short I want to be as useful to the party as possible. And allowing me to measure the dps I put out with different rotations, different builds and etc allows me to bring that kind of quality to the group.

Not having a dps meter is like not asking for a carfax report.

I don't see anyone preventing you from busting out your stopwatch and measuring your DPS, though...

And, personal logs/meters are already confirmed.

So you're saying you are unable to find out the correct rotations without a damage meter?
Yes, damage meter is a convenient way to find them. But is it really a necessity? No, I do not think it is.
There must be some websites out there already that can tell you your most effective rotation.
