Greetings All!

We are currently trying to investigate reports of dedicated sound cards not producing audio output for Star Wars: The Old Republic. If you are having issues then please reply to the thread with the following information:
  1. What is the exact issue you are currently experiencing with your sound?
  2. What is the model of motherboard you are currently using?
  3. What is the exact model of sound card that is failing?
  4. What is your audio setup? i.e 7.1? 5.1? 2.1?
  5. What outputs are failing? i.e Optical output?, Discrete output?, Headphones?
  6. What is your sound card driver version?
  7. What is your operating system version? XP? Vista? Windows 7? 32/64bit?
  8. Is your sound card set as the default sound output?

We would also like to take a moment to point out that some users have reported that turning off "DS3D GX" mode on the Asus Xonar seems to fix most issues experienced with this sound card.

In an effort to keep your data organized and easy to read, please respond to the questions above in the same format!

Thanks!

  1. What is the exact issue you are currently experiencing with your sound? Game sounds seem to be intermittent. Sound starts out ok but then fades for a bit then comes back. In two of my quest cut scenes no sound even though character mouths are moving. Walking down a hallway can hear footsteps then all of a sudden no sound.

My sound effects in the game will periodically turn off and won't come back.

The sound effects are enabled in the 'sound' menu and the master sound is on. Ambient sound appears to be available and some sounds (like entering a zone) still work. After restarting the computer once I found that the sfx came back but then shortly disappeared again.

  1. What is the exact issue you are currently experiencing with your sound?
I seem to have two problems:
    1. Certain sounds seems to start and then stop sometimes, especially noticeable is the sound of my speeder when moving. It will sound fine then all of a sudden just cut out while the rest of the game sounds continue. This seems to happen a lot (but not exclusively) when driving through a tunnel or under an overpass.
    2. I have a problem with ambient sounds and music which are not always working. Sometimes I can hear the ambient sounds if I turn down all the other sliders in the audio preferences of the game but even then it seems very low volume and I have to crank up my speakers a lot.
  2. What is the model of motherboard you are currently using?
    Asus P7P55D
  3. What is the exact model of sound card that is failing?
Asus Xonar D2X (Although I don't think my card is failing, since it works fine on everything else, also turning off "DS3D GX" mode didn't help)
  4. What is your audio setup? i.e 7.1? 5.1? 2.1?
    5.1 Surround
  5. What outputs are failing? i.e Optical output?, Discrete output?, Headphones?
I have the card hooked up to my 5.1 Surround Amplifier through optical cable.
  6. What is your sound card driver version?
    7.12.8.1793
  7. What is your operating system version? XP? Vista? Windows 7? 32/64bit?
    Windows 7 64bit
  8. Is your sound card set as the default sound output?
    Yes

What is the exact issue you are currently experiencing with your sound?
All sounds from my char and NPC's not playing, only the ambient is playing.
When this occurs, I cannot interact with NPC's on quests, the char freezes with a dialog box over his head, hitting escape unfreezes the character. Restarting game fixes sound for a while.

What is the model of motherboard you are currently using?
P8Z68-V PRO GEN3

What is the exact model of sound card that is failing?
Realtek High Definition Audio ALC892 Azalia
I noticed a setting change that I did not change, allow exclusive applications to take control of this device. This has caused problems before in other applications that have changed that setting.

What is your audio setup? i.e 7.1? 5.1? 2.1?
headphones 2.0

What outputs are failing? i.e Optical output?, Discrete output?, Headphones?
HDMI out

What is your sound card driver version?
driver v 6.01.6251

What is your operating system version? XP? Vista? Windows 7? 32/64bit?
Windows 7 64bit

Is your sound card set as the default sound output?
The Realtek HDMI is default

Same - USUALLY HAPPENS right after I have to log back in after ERROR CODE 9000, so a real delight........................................... ......ALSO PLEASE NOTE this is NOT a sound card issue, this is an IN GAME issue as some elements of the graphics are affected at the same time.
